Write Speed set @ 4x only on Verbatim Media DL

hi there,

 

i have a HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N 1.02 (ATA) drive

 

i use Verbatim DL 2.4x speed media. Media Code: Disc ID: MKM-001-00

 

for some reason ever since i got this drive, i can only burn at 4x speed

which is the speed that imgburn and other software such as clonecd

picks the disc up as. the funny thing is thou the disc is rated at 2.4x

 

i like to know how to force a 2.4x write in imgburn, im not sure if there

is an option for doing this.

 

if this cannot be done forcefully thru a program can anyone

please shed some light on why its only detecting 4x speed write

as i would like to have options.

 

im not sure if a firmware update may resolve this issue ? or maybe its

just a bad batch of blanks ?

Apply the latest firmware (1.05) and see if it allows 2.4x with that version. Remember to remove any disc from the drive and close the tray before flashing the drive.

My H55L 1.03 firmware only shows 4x on verb MKM-001-00

 

 

Flashed it to 1.05 and still just 4x

 

 

strange though as the 1.05 firmware and 1.03 firmware have the 2.4x write strategy present

well seems like this is not an isolated issue then. yes i will attempt a firmware upgrade and see what happens but from the recent post it looks like it does not fix it, which is rather lame i must say and needs to be fixed.

just did the firmware upgarde to 1.05 and still got the same problem im going to get in touch with lg about this....

Some burners, like Samsung's SH-S203B, do better burns at 4x on Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x MKM-001-00 media. Other burners are able to burn this media at up to 8x, and they don't do bad job at that speed either.

 

From the few scans posted on this thread over at CDFreaks, it seems this burner does good job burning Verbatim DVD+R DLs at 4x. May I ask what problem(s) are you having that you think are related to burn speed? Maybe we can help you further

na there is no real problems as such.. the burner performs well at 4x with very little problems at all, however i have had on a couple of occasions that i would like to burn at 2.4x for increased reliability reasons, and the fact of the matter is that the burner should be able to burn at the rated speed of the media not just what would be the maximum speed, in fact i should have the option of burning up to 8x like you said but i dont even have that option ... its only locked at 4x.

 

ive sent lg a support request and also called them they are forwarding my issue to korea were they develop the firmware and hopefully i can get back to this thread with some further information. regards.
