My DVD Burner burns single layers fine. However, when I go to burn a DL, I get a "Power Calibration Error" And it is unable to start the burn. I get the error before any burning starts. I thought at first it was the media, (had memorex) however I got verbs and same thing. I have tried nearly every disk in the spindle.

I dont think it is the burner, because it worked with my other computer running XP, however this new computer is running Vista and it has had trouble burning DLs...

The error is a popup that says

I/O Error!

Device: [0:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4160B A306 (D:) (ATA)

ScsiStatus: 0x02

Interpretation: Check Condition

CDB: AC 14 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00

Interpretation: Get Performance

Sense Area: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 10 AC 00 00 0E 30 05 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

Interpretation: Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Format

Once again, these verbs worked fine when the drive was in my other comp, and the drive burns single layers fine...

Any help would be appreciated!

A copy of the log from that burn session is a lot more useful in diagnosing problems than just the contents of the error box.

Please post it if you have it. (Check Help -> ImgBurn Logs from within the program)

Put one of the older Verbatims in the drive and look in the Information box on the right: I bet it says Disc ID: MKM-001-00, which is the media code for Verbatim DVD+R DLs 2.4x rated discs. The ones you have are rated 8x and aren't as compatible as the older 2.4x ones. Maybe it's time for a new burner? :)

darn, sorry you are right.

So am I screwed with these disks? Does anyone know neweggs return policy?

anyway to make these 8x work with my burner? Or is there a cheap upgrade out there available? What're some good cheap burners?
