Posting a log will give us a little more information about your setup, what kind of discs you are trying to use and what firmware you are currently using on your drive.

As you can see your drive should be able to handle DVD+R DL media up to 8X.

What brand/media code are you going to use? It's not the best DL writer for non Verbatim discs.

Well I've read plenty on here since I joined last night and I figured out that I need to use Verbatim, made in Singapore, 2.4x DL ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
