Andabutterpie Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 My firewall is telling me that "Imgburn - The Ultimate Image Burner! is trying to communicate with \SystemRoot\System32\smss.exe by opening its process". Is this a natural function of the program?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 It could be... go into the settings and turn off the warning about interfering programs, then see if it still does it.
Andabutterpie Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 It could be... go into the settings and turn off the warning about interfering programs, then see if it still does it. I just turned off the warning, closed Imgburn, and started it again. This time the firewall alert didn't appear. Definition of smss.exe from various sites: The Session Manager Subsystem is responsible for starting a user's session. When this process begins, the system thread is responsible for a number of specific tasks including launching the Winlogon, specific Win32 processes and among other items, setting the system variables. Why doesn't the alert appear any longer? Even though I turned off the warning in Imgburn, isn't it still trying to communicate with smss.exe?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 It's not directed at any one process, it's just scanning them all to see if they match those in the list that interfere with ImgBurn. So in answer to your original question, yes it's a natural function of the program and is nothing to worry about.
