Dirty Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Hello i have been struggling to burn iso images for awhile now and I can not seem to figure out what is going wrong. If you can please just take a look and give me any advice i would greatly appreciate it. I 09:52:44 ImgBurn Version 2.4.1.0 started! I 09:52:44 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 09:52:44 Total Physical Memory: 1,048,048 KB - Available: 655,812 KB W 09:52:44 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size. I 09:52:44 Initialising SPTI... I 09:52:45 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 09:52:45 Found 2 DVD-ROMs and 1 DVD
mmalves Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I 09:54:18 Destination Device: [2:0:0] Optiarc DVD RW AD-7170A 1.03 (E:) (ATA)I 09:54:18 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: MBI 01RG40) (Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x) I 09:54:18 Write Speed: MAX Try burning at 8x or 12x. You should use better media, as those discs you're using now are known for their low quality. Use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blanks if you can. Also update your burner's firmware to the latest 1.05 version (the link is under the AD-7170 P-ATA caption). Remember to remove any discs from the drive and close the tray before updating the burner's firmware.
dontasciime Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Change media MBI media is not the best and causes the kind of issues you are having. Also update the drives firmware if there is a newer one than 1.03 Also check out the FAQ on DMA issues and follow the advice given to remove controller etc but mainly change your media FIRST and update firmware

dontasciime Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Clean the Lens with a Cd cleaner. Follow and fulfil FAQ on DMA and try again If still the same buy a new writer and see if you can RMA the one you got.
johndoes Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I have similar problems with my brand new Optiarc AD-7200A Here are two recent logs. I'll upgrade my firmware ASAP. It was a compilation of avi's. If I have another failed verification after the firmware upgrade, I'll post the log here. Otherwise we can assume it was the firmware (although I doubt it).
LOCOENG Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 It all looks like it went well until the verifacation of 10 09.avi... Does the disc play in your standalone?
mmalves Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Also slow down the burn speed to 8x or 12x, or at the very least to 16x if you're in a hurry

I haven't tried the previous disk on my standalone. I'll try to lower the speed for my next burn... Could it be a Windows problem? Or should I consider an RMA for my Optiarc? :-( Edited August 27, 2008 by johndoes
LOCOENG Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Could just be a bad avi....I wouldn't replace the drive just yet.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Do as mentioned earlier, slow the burn down to 8x or 12x.
johndoes Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I've slowed down the burn to 8x. I've even increased the buffer size to 50 MB. So far, I didn't get any "No Seek Complete" errors. I'm still getting 'Miscompares' though. For example, today I made a backup of a another AVI collection of mine. Here's the log: I 16:18:56 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 16:18:56 Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition (6.0, Build 6000) I 16:18:56 Total Physical Memory: 2.620.352 KB - Available: 1.415.368 KB I 16:18:56 Initialising SPTI... I 16:18:56 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 16:18:58 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD
LIGHTNING UK! Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Miscompares could be a dodgy filter driver and/or memory corruption. Test your machine using MemTest+ or something - leave it running for a couple of passes. You could also try the drive in another machine, and another drive in your machine.

I'll try checking my memory, however, what is a filter driver? I had similar problems with my previous drive, however I dismissed them because that drive broke down (it didn't spin the disc at all)...
johndoes Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Check the 'Tools' menu Thanks for the advice! dontasciime Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 1 error is bad so replace memory, take 1 out test again I like to start with dimm 4 and work back or stop 128 bit (dual channel) then test If you have a bios that givess ECC and memory does not support it make sure ECC is disabled. 1 of my asus boards had ECC on at default making memory in use fail (took ages to figure it out)
johndoes Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 LOCOENG, mmalves, Lightning UK!, dontasciime thank you all very, very much. Since I've changed the memory module and slowed the burn down to 8x, my trusted Optiarc made no coasters at all!
