Your burner is pretty old and you're using some of the lowest quality media known to man. That's not a good combination :D

You'll have more chance of success using Taiyo Yuden 8x or Verbatim 8x blanks. Or maybe you should invest in a new burner, which is pretty cheap nowadays and also ensures better quality burns :)

Yeah i figured it was bad media. Memorex and Maxell works pretty good though. Like I said my friend just gave these to me for burning some dvds for him so he'll have to get a different blank dvd's. Also if i bought a better burner and tried burning at 20x would it work without fail? Uncle has an 18x burner and he gets worthless dvds if he burns it that high but at a lower speed it works fine. I know my walmart has a Lite-on dvd burner that burns dual layer. So i might get that.

Just because you have a 20x burner doesn't mean you need to burn at 20x. To get good burns at high speed you also have to use good quality blanks, such as the ones made by Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. Burning at 8x or 12x usually gives the best results.
