Trying to backup some important files.

If they're important you might like to consider using 2 single layer discs rather than a DL one that your drive doesn't appear to support properly.

 

If you must go the DL route, get some Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL ones instead (with the MKM-001-00 dye).

 

If you can find out who makes your drive you could also see if there are any firmware updates available for it.
