ericthelobster Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Warning - newbie alert.... Been trying to burn my first DL DVD without success. My "old" DVD drive didn't like DLs, so I've just taken the opportunity to buy a new (external) one, primarily for use with a notebook PC, but which will cope with DLs too - it's an LG GSA-E50L. Having followed the tutorial on this site, my test burn failed - log is reproduced below. Searching around the forum the most commonly proferred advice seems to be (1) upgrade firmware and (2) use nothing but Verbatim media. Now, I've looked on the LG website for a firmware update but can't find one for my drive (but it is brand new??). And I'm using Datawrite General Purpose Titanium 2.4x DVD+R DL media. Can anyone offer any advice other than to buy some Verbatims - ie, are there any clues in my log file? If that's the answer then fine, but would rather not shell out on them if it's a waste of time - this is a bit expensive experimenting by trial and error! :-( Thanks David I 16:06:57 ImgBurn Version 2.4.1.0 started! I 16:06:57 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2) I 16:06:57 Total Physical Memory: 1,047,556 KB - Available: 326,684 KB I 16:06:58 Initialising SPTI... dontasciime Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Your choice of media is Poor use Verbatim MKM-001-00 @ 2.4x or 4x and look for firmware update, I had a quick look for update but could not find update to your drive but maybe its a regional thing. tried USA and UK and no firmware. Or I am blind
