Mike89 Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Just tried to download the newest Imgburn. Used the BetaNews link. Norton antiviris picked up a trojan called "Downloader" and got rid of it. Thought someone would like to know. From now on I'm just going to use the Imgburn link.
Cynthia Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 No problems with AVG or Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on the file from BetaNews.
Mike89 Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 Dunno. All I know is I went there and NAV 2008 auto protect picked it right up (called it Downloader Virus) and gave quite a bit of info on it, then said it got rid of it. Must have been something for it to do all that. AVG is known for giving a lot of false positives. Dunno how well it detects. NAV 2008 is among the lowest for false positives.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 It's got exactly the same file hash as the ImgBurn.com mirror one - so basically it's 100% fine.
LOCOENG Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 NAV 2008 auto protect picked it right up (called it Downloader Virus) and gave quite a bit of info on it Should've posted all that information
Mike89 Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 Ok, it looks like all is well then. I was just reporting my experience. Dunno if that came from another webpage that was open even though I wasn't viewing it at the time or what.
volvofl10 Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 No problem Mike , better to report anything unusual than to not say anything at all
LIGHTNING UK! Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 NSIS based installers are forever falsely getting picked up as viruses, it just means the AV people haven't gotten round to tweaking their definitions after a new version was released (in this case, NSIS 2.38).
