Burn slows at 37% then fails after a few hours --Resolved

I've been trying to burn an ISO of my navigation DVD to these Verbatim 8x discs. I have an HP 640c burner. All the places I went said to burn on Verbatim discs at the slowest speed so I tried 1x then 2.4x. The book type is set to DVD-ROM.

It starts off going at a decent speed (around 2.4x) but slows down as time passes. Around 37%, it's bouncing between 0.0x and 0.1x and says something like 22 hours remaining. I haven't actually sat around to see how long it takes to fail but it does fail after a few hours of doing that around 50%. I checked the IDE controller and it still says DMA 2. I really have no idea what's going on here. Do I need to use slower discs with this burner?

This wasn't with the very same blank disc, was it? It failed at exactly the same spot, which is odd if it isn't the very same disc.

Anyway, your writer doesn't seem to support those 8x rated Verbatim blanks. You could try and get Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x MKM-001-00 Made in Singapore blanks, or you could buy a new burner :)

Also, which controller is the drive connected to? Are you using the latest storage drivers available for it?

It wasn't the same disc, no. I had just updated the firmware to the latest version and the drivers were in my nvidia drivers that I updated a few weeks ago. I'll see if I can get some of the slower discs.

Yeah, the problem was my DVD burner not supporting my DVDs. I used DVD Identifier to get the media code block and imported it into mediacodespeededit to edit the firmware to support the discs. It worked fine after that. I didn't have to do anything with drivers.
