dangermouse
Hello there, I have come across a very strange problem i would really like to get resolved as its more of an annoyance rather than a issue. I am currently evaluating www.storagecraft.com ShadowProtect Desktop Edition for my image backup solution. I have noticed that ever since i installed this program whenever i go to burn or read a disc with Imgburn (even latest build) i get random floppy drive access. It happens without fail everytime i use imgburn. I did a couple of tests i tried using Nero and also DVDFAB Platinum and i can confirm that when burning or ripping a disc i dont get these random reads. So ive come to the conclusion that ive something to do with Imgburn and Shadowprotect running together. Im hopeing that its just a simple option i the settings that is making this happen and i can turn it off. If anyone has any information on this and how to resolve it. Please let me know. Thanks. mmalves
I would guess it's a quirk with the way that ShadowProtect monitors drives. Have you changed any of ImgBurn's settings? Even if you didn't, please go to Tools->Settings, click Restore Defaults, answer Yes and click OK. Now try again and see if it still does that. dangermouse
Ok it still happens... i reset the settings in imgburn... to be more specific i hear and see the floppy drive access when i open imgburn and put a disc into the drive either in read or write mode. It accesses the floppy drive once only and thats it. During the burn its fine. Im not sure what else it can be. I tried with DVDFab and i dont get this issue or with Nero either. So what else could it be ? Thanks.
Cynthia
Perhaps there is a an old link in the 'Source MRU' list that triggers the floppy. Try to clear those. There is a button in the preferences window in the 'Build' tab and also in the most recent files option in the main menus.
dangermouse
forget answering this question... i just realised that even when imgburn is not open and i put a dvd into the dvdrom drive when it reads the disc and pops up the windows autoplay feature it still accesses the floppy drive and also when i eject the disc it also does a floppy access... guess its shadowprotect that has the issue here. mmalves
That's strange You see, ImgBurn communicates with the drive using SPTI (SCSI Pass-Through Interface) via the CdRom class, which only allows it to communicate with optical drives. Every other operation (read/write from/to HDs/network drives/etc) is done through standard Windows API calls. If I recall correctly, Ner0 uses ASPI and DVDFab uses Patin-Couffin, which both are available as alternate options that ImgBurn can use (Tools->Settings->I/O tab), so you might want to try that. From a quick search at their forums, it seems other people are also having the same issue.
