Finalizing and LB rating criteria

In the 'Scenarist authored dual layer thread' earlier I had some doubts regarding the 'finalizing disc' step since my iso image had taken 14 minutes to finalise in Imgburn. The layer division in that iso image was: L0=67% and L1=33%.

 

I had to burn another .nrg dual layer image and did it successfully with Imgburn earlier today. The size of this image was 7.85GB and the layer division was: L0=51% and L1=49%. This time the finalizing was done in around 2 minutes so I get a feeling that finalizing takes longer when the layer size difference is greater. Both these images were burnt at 2.4x on Sony MKM-001-00 blanks.

 

Also, I would really appreciate some feedback regarding the criteria used by Imgburn to assign various ratings to the potential LB positions in dual layer projects. The reason I ask is that while my Scenarist authored dual layer iso (that had the LB at a chapter point with a black fade in without any scene or dialogue) was given a 'Good' rating', the .nrg image that I burnt earlier today (with a LB in the middle of a scene) was given a 'Very Good' rating.

 

I assumed that Imgburn considers the LB's proximity to the midpoint of the dual layer video as the vital factor while assigning these ratings since the LB in my first .iso image was clearly better positioned than the .nrg image I burnt today. Is this right?

Yes. The writer is padding layer 1 with 0s to match the size of layer 0. Get it closer to 50/50 - in that case, you won't write so close to the edge of the disc, either.

 

As for the criteria, I am sure this is covered somewhere else (try a search or the guides). Excellent is at the start of a title or titleset. Very Good is at a VobID change.
