burning rewritable dvd's

Hi.

I am able to burn standard dvd-r discs OK, but if I try to burn the same file, using a dvd-rw disc, when I press the "calculate button" it says 99%, and although I can put the video files onto the disc, it will not play. My player always says "no disc". Anyone any ideas why?

what player ? also is the RW disc closed/ finalised etc
