veyronski Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Hi everybody I have decent desktop P4 (DVDR and CDRW drives, 80G HD) running XPhome. Everything runs fine exept for recent problem with USB LiteON SDW-431SX(latest firmware, connected via USB1) when trying to burn data DVD on DVD+-R or DVD+-RW. No problems with CD burns. When I burn new disk(DVDR or DVDRW),the software says the process has been completed, but the burned disk is invisible either on my machine or on another. If I try to erase such screwed DVD+RW, I get : 1-no disk in the drive 2-erasing appears to be happening, but I cannot write on that disk afterwards. 3-Windows explorer freezes So far I used NTI 7 Platinum, Nero 7. ExpressBurn. Before each change I cleaned up with Uniblue registry cleaner. Disks used DVD-R LiteOn, DVD+R Tesco, DVD+RW (Philips, Maxell,PCworld) ExpressBurn errors - UDF- sence data:03 0c 00 Iso+Joliet- sence data:05 30 10 NTI Error Code: 1003 CDB: 28 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 01 00 00 00 SenseKey:03 ASC:02 ASCQ:00 Nero error- ---- DVD Structure: Physical Format Information (00h) ---- Layer: 0, Address: 0 (0 h), AGID: 0; Length: 2050 Book Type: DVD-ROM (0), Part Version: 1 Disc Size: 120 mm, Maximum Rate: <not specified> (F h) Number of Layers: 1, Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP), Layer Type: rewritable Linear Density: 0,267 um/bit, Track Density: 0,74 um/track Starting Physical Sector Number of Data Area: 30000 h (DVD-ROM, DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW) End Physical Sector Number of Data Area: A492F h End Sector Number in Layer 0: 0 h Data in Burst Cutting Area (BCA) does not exist Media Specific: 00 01 4F 50 54 4F 44 49 - 53 43 4F 50 34 01 39 23 ..OPTODISCOP4.9# 00 9C 7C 64 02 28 00 96 - 7E 74 02 28 00 9C 7B 70 ..|d.(..~t.(..{p 02 28 04 04 10 F0 00 F0 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 .(.............. 19:15:26 #18 Text 0 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1658 Set remaining time: 5:37,880 (337880ms) -> OK 19:15:26 #19 Text 0 File DVDPlusRW.cpp, Line 603 Start write address at LBA 0 DVD high compatibility mode: Yes 19:15:28 #20 SCSI -1046 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1430 SCSI Exec, HA 2, TA 0, LUN 0, buffer 0x03580000 Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR) HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK) TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND) Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST) Sense Code: 0x30 Sense Qual: 0x06 CDB Data: 0x2A 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x20 0x00 0x00 0x00 Sense Data: 0x70 0x00 0x05 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0A 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x30 0x06 19:15:28 #21 CDR -1046 File Writer.cpp, Line 301 Illegal disc 19:15:28 #22 Text 0 File ThreadedTransfer.cpp, Line 229 all writers idle, stopping conversion 19:15:29 #23 Text 0 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1658 Set remaining time: 0:00,000 (0ms) -> OK 19:15:29 #24 Text 0 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1658 Set remaining time: 0:00,000 (0ms) -> OK 19:15:29 #25 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1800 Burn process failed at 2.4x (3,312 KB/s) Alchohol error: cannot format medium-incompatible medium 03 0c 00 write error ImgBurn error: I/O error cannot format media-Incompatible media I have tried "Upperfilters-Lower filters" trick, makes no difference. The most anoying thing is that DVD RW becomes unusable after just 1 burn!!! I need plain data writing on DVD, nothing else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Turn 'Prefer Properly Formatted +RW' back on in the settings and get ImgBurn to do a FULL erase. Then please post the log from that. When you're burning, turn on the Verify option and post the complete log of both operations. You really need to get yourself a USB 2.0 card or something, you'll be mullering the burnproof feature of the drive if you're stuck at 0.6x speed. That drive is old and probably doesn't do it very well.

Full erase failed, and ImgBurn suggested formatting before I could write on this disk. I went along with that and here is the data: I 15:10:56 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 15:10:56 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 15:10:56 Total Physical Memory: 456,812 KB - Available: 110,576 KB I 15:10:56 Initialising ASPI... I 15:10:56 WNASPI32.DLL - frogaspi.dll - Frog ASPI - Version 0.29.4.10 I 15:10:56 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 15:10:56 Found 1 DVD+R and 1 DVD
LIGHTNING UK! Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 The verdict is.... it's not working very well! Why are you using ASPI (FrogASPI) for your I/O interface? Put it back on SPTI. I've no idea where all the 'No Additional Sense Information' errors being returned by your drive/drivers are coming from. They're probably bogus - or could be due to you using FrogASPI. The power calibration and session fixation errors are because your drive doesn't really like the media. I'm not really surprised because rewritable discs are never really any good and your drive is pretty ancient now. You don't fancy treating yourself to a new one?
dontasciime Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Top that off with INFODISC. The year is 2008
