Hi everybody

I have decent desktop P4 (DVDR and CDRW drives, 80G HD) running XPhome. Everything runs fine exept for recent problem with USB LiteON SDW-431SX(latest firmware, connected via USB1) when trying to burn data DVD on DVD+-R or DVD+-RW. No problems with CD burns.

When I burn new disk(DVDR or DVDRW),the software says the process has been completed, but the burned disk is invisible either on my machine or on another.

If I try to erase such screwed DVD+RW, I get :

1-no disk in the drive

2-erasing appears to be happening, but I cannot write on that disk afterwards.

3-Windows explorer freezes

So far I used NTI 7 Platinum, Nero 7. ExpressBurn. Before each change I cleaned up with Uniblue registry cleaner.

Disks used DVD-R LiteOn, DVD+R Tesco,

DVD+RW (Philips, Maxell,PCworld)

I have tried "Upperfilters-Lower filters" trick, makes no difference.

The most anoying thing is that DVD RW becomes unusable after just 1 burn!!!

I need plain data writing on DVD, nothing else.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Turn 'Prefer Properly Formatted +RW' back on in the settings and get ImgBurn to do a FULL erase.

Then please post the log from that.

When you're burning, turn on the Verify option and post the complete log of both operations.

You really need to get yourself a USB 2.0 card or something, you'll be mullering the burnproof feature of the drive if you're stuck at 0.6x speed. That drive is old and probably doesn't do it very well.

Thanks, LUK. Followed your suggestion using USB2(laptop). Full erase failed, and ImgBurn suggested formatting before I could write on this disk. I went along with that and here is the data:

I 15:10:56 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started!

I 15:10:56 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3)

I 15:10:56 Total Physical Memory: 456,812 KB - Available: 110,576 KB

I 15:10:56 Initialising ASPI...

I 15:10:56 WNASPI32.DLL - frogaspi.dll - Frog ASPI - Version 0.29.4.10

I 15:10:56 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...

I 15:10:56 Found 1 DVD+R and 1 DVD

The verdict is.... it's not working very well!

Why are you using ASPI (FrogASPI) for your I/O interface? Put it back on SPTI.

I've no idea where all the 'No Additional Sense Information' errors being returned by your drive/drivers are coming from. They're probably bogus - or could be due to you using FrogASPI.

The power calibration and session fixation errors are because your drive doesn't really like the media. I'm not really surprised because rewritable discs are never really any good and your drive is pretty ancient now. You don't fancy treating yourself to a new one?
