emkeyen Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 (edited) Hello, Whenever I try to burn DVDs I get an error message saying "Failed to Write Sectors (...) Power Calibration Area Error" (see full transcript below). Burning CDs work and I've burned DVDs before. I've tried to burn at 1x and 2x even though the media is 16x. Also tried two different brands of DVD+R's, both fail the same way. I've searched the forums but no luck. Also googled for firmware updates, but could not find anything but a proprietary installer for Sony Vaio laptops that refuses to run on my ThinkPad. (And there is nothing for the UJ-842 on the Lenovo webbo either.) Oh, what to do next? Any advice much appreciated! Cheers Em. mmalves Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 I 13:16:10 Destination Device: [1:0:0] MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-842 RB01 (E:) (ATA)I 13:16:10 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: RITEK-F16-01) (Speeds: 2,4x) It seems that media isn't supported by your burner and fails to burn when using a "generic" write strategy. Try with better media, such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blanks, preferably the 8x rated ones. You might also want to run a cleaning disc on that drive
