There's firmware 1.02 available at http://au.lgservice.com/ (Device Driver -> DVD-ROM(Writer) -> page 7). Remove any disc and close the tray before updating the firmware. Reboot after it has finished.

Sort out why your machine can't sustain the write buffer for an 8x burn too.

because of what LUK said above, can you burn at 4x with that PC ? its not a laptop is it ? . i ask as you only have 256 of RAM

I have the same problem - I don't know how to post the log - BUT everytime I burn a DVD on either of my two drives and at whatever write speed, I always get verification failure. At first I threw the disks away, but then I decided to see if they worked, and they do, perfectly. So now I just cancel the verification process and get on with it.
