making a bootable CD

I would like to make a bootable CD that will contain software to completely wipe a disc as well as other programs. I've burned lots of discs before, but never one that is bootable. How do I go about preparing an ISO to become a bootable CD? Thanks for the help.

It's easier to download some disc already built to do that and much more, like Hiren's BootCD for instance (you can easily find it on torrents)
