I have a LG burner that has errors/unable to burn dual layers only. I have no problem burning dvds or cds. I've tried using other brand of media but the same problem occurs. I've used other programs as well but no luck. What's wrong with my drive?

here's a picture of the error

change your media those ritek are too hit n miss. If you can get them to burn on those writers do so. They will not burn on all dvd writers as I have those disc's and lots of dvd writers so I can say, they burn @2.4x on all the writers I have tried so far. 4x fails on a 1 or maybe 2 drives but 6x and 8x tend to fail on every drive I try them on with the odd one working.

There is also a newer firmware for your drive 1.02

I uploaded it here as lg site javascript not let me copy link

Sounds farmiliar...check out my thread (search forum; shot2kl). I'm going to buy a new external drive; compared to a cake of media the price of a drive is not that much more. The general consenses is that old drives and new media don't work well together. You could try Verbatim 2.4x and see what happens. I don't think flashing your drive will work. I have tried everything to fix my issues, all resulting with the same failure.

Check out member LOCOENG, and go to her website. You will find a good article about media, which supports alot of what the brains of this site are saying. DL burning has alot of additional particular issues also, strength of laser, angle of laser beam, dye used in the media, etc.

I'll post my results in my thread when I get everything worked out.
