Lawrencemathon Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Hey guys. I'm a new registered newbie and I need help. Can this program (imgburn) copy CDs & DVDs like Nero does? If so, how do I do that? Also, can it make data and audio and backup CDs & DVDs? Also, I understand what an ISO image is. But there is forum talk out there about burning from 2 or more ISO's at the same time? Please explain. Can this program 100% take the place of my Nero or Roxio CD/DVD burning ROM software? In other words, can I throw them away? If imgburn can do what I asked above, my kids have a tendency to scratch all of my original audio CDs, game CDs and DVDs. I would like to make backup copies of this media for them to use, and keep the original in a safe place. Can this be done with imgburn? Lastly, what about compression? Can I make, say burn 900 MB of data onto a 700 MB CD - compressed, and still play?
blutach Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 Yes, read the guides - see link in my signature. However, like Ner0 and R0xi0, it does not decrypt DVDs. Also, there is no multisession capabilities (yet). ImgBurn is prely burning software - it has no compression. Regards
soup2nuts Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 You might want to check these out. The second one you have to go through both pages. Single Layer Dual Layer

Lawrencemathon Posted November 9, 2008 Author Posted November 9, 2008 Hey dudes: Your responses did not answer my email questions about this program? As a newbie, I am more confused than ever. What I want to know is: Can IMGBURN replace Nero or Roxio as far as (1) making backup CD's (2) make data CDs (3) duplicating my game and audio CD's by first creating an image on the HD, then burning it on a CD? (I would think that creating an image on the HD, then burning it to make a working CD would bypass any copyprotection.) Note: I am not a pirate! All I want to do is create backups of my games & music, then keep the original in a safe place, away from my kids, then have the kids play with the copy CD. This way, when they scratch the CD bad enough, I can make them another copy from the original. Please note that I have read the posted guides to this program and they don't address the questions that I have raised. It doesn't sound like this program will duplicate CDs or make backups.. Please help!!! My second question is this. It has been mentioned that I can (add) or (remove) files from the created image on the HD before buring it into a working CD. How do I do this? If I download music, can IMGBURN convert the files so that they can play in a MP3 format? Confused.
Cynthia Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Backup CD. Yes, if it's not protected. Use Read Mode and then Write Mode. Making backup CD. Yes, you can create your own compilation in the Build Mode. Duplicating. Yes, if it's not protected. If you mean that you want to backup your hard disk and put it to CD's - then there are better program to use. Your second Q: It's not possible to remove or add stuff on an already created image. Instead unpack the image and make a new compilation in the Build Mode. www.7-zip.org can split images. Yes, ImgBurn can convert the most common music formats so that they can be played back from a CD. Use the 'Create CD CUE file' option.
