I just got this PC a few months ago, and have been burning stuff without issue for awhile and it just suddenly came out of nowhere. I seriously burned something before I ever got it, and then started it up to burn again and got the error. I've been searching endlessly for answers and have found nothing but vague suggestions. Maybe throwing the details out to you guys might guide me better. I really need and want to get this taken care of. When I use ANY burning program this occurs, and I know 100% it's an issue with the recorder, I'm pretty sure. I just have no idea how to rectify it. ImgBurn has been my primary burner for awhile. I notice when I try to burn, the CD drive never switches to "burning" mode. I don't hear the motors for it start up and the red light never comes on, it just stays green making noises. I can load data DVDs, data CDs, movie DVDs, music CDs, and I can rip them fine, but I cannot seem to burn DVDs or CDs anymore. Is it possible something just screwed my drive up, something I could fix up? Is the drive (absurdly) busted? It was a pretty quality drive and just to do that so soon.... I've had worse drives last forever... I am going nuts here.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Have you tried with Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden media? Have you tried burning at 8x or 12x? What controller is the drive on? It's not normal for the drivers to report 'Fibre' for the Bus Type.

It's not normal for the drivers to report 'Fibre' for the Bus Type. I don't think I've tried Taiyo Yuden, but I might have tried Verbatim. I'm not sure. I've tried Maxwell, Sony and TDK and all are giving me the same thing. How do I check the controller? I do suspect a setting might have been hit to a wrong.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 There isn't a setting that can cause it. Follow the cable from the back of the drive down to the motherboard, then see which port it goes into and look it up in the motherboard manual. Failing that, look in device manager under the IDE controllers branch and/or the SCSI one.
annoyed Posted November 11, 2008 Author Posted November 11, 2008 I looked in the Device Manager, and can't really tell. The DVD drive's location is listed as Bus Number 1, Target Id 1, though.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 What items are listed in device manager under those two branches I mentioned?

LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Have you installed the latest nforce drivers from NVIDIA's site?
annoyed Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 I updated them, and I can now burn CDs (I tested it out), but trying to burn DVDs still gives me a problem. annoyed Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 (edited) Also, I notice now whenever I insert or remove a CD, my screen flashes black for a second and Windows doesn't seem to be recognizing the CD I burned. Edit: Disabling Daemon Tools now causes the CD to be recognized... I don't know what the hell is going on anymore. Img Burn still isn't burning to DVDs Edited November 12, 2008 by annoyed
annoyed Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 Latest version of Daemon Tools installed? Yeah... they haven't released a new version since July. I got the computer in August.
