dbminter Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Well, looks like I've burned through another NEC drive with years of abuse and overuse and given my propensity to break drives, it seems, I appear to need a replacement for my NEC. It's no longer finalizing Verbatim DVD+R DL discs that it used to finalize. So, I ask, what is the latest model of NEC that is out there for me to search for? Thanks!
LOCOENG Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 72XX's are the latest and they are pretty good, although I haven't researched the newest 7220's. http://www.sonynec-optiarc.com/products/hh...drw/ad7200.html http://www.sonynec-optiarc.com/products/hh...drw/ad7220.html I take that back about the 7220 ~ http://club.cdfreaks.com/f86/optiarc-ad-72...66/#post2145407 I might snatch up another 7200 while I still can.
dbminter Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 I went over the CDFreaks link and they're saying the 7220 is a Lite-On. By the talk I construed from the rest of the replies, that the 7200 is not a Lite-On drive. By that, I think I'll get the 7200. I had issues with an IOMega rebaded Lite On drive where the video played back on the PS 2 skipped.
LOCOENG Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 That's right, the 7200 is not a Litey. I would definitely go for it over the 7220.
dbminter Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 That's what I did. Found both on Newegg and ordered the 7200.
lfcrule1972 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Anyone want to place bets that the poor 7200 doesn't see out a year with db ?
LOCOENG Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Why wouldn't it crule...is db especially rough on hardware?
dbminter Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 I have a nefarious reputation for drives dying on me. Both for reasons unknown and through years of use. Sometimes, it's just I need to replace a drive because I discover some flaw in it. Like the IOMega I had that was a rebadged Lite On. Ever since I discovered that drive produced movie discs that skipped on playback in the Playstation 2, I replaced it and put Lite On on my shit list. I think my last NEC last 2 or 3 years. A pretty good track record for me, actually.
dbminter Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 What is the latest firmware for this drive? I went over by RPC1 and did a search, coming across this page. http://www.sonynec-optiarc.eu/en/support-s...-ad-series.html According to it, my firmware is the latest, 1.06. Is 1.06 the latest for the Sony Optiarc 7200?
LOCOENG Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 1.06 is what I'm using, but I'm using L&D's version.
dbminter Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 Yeah, I also did a Google and came across a lot of different Liggy And Dee firmwares. I wasn't sure what was what so I've stuck with established firmware.
LOCOENG Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 No harm in that...happy burning. Excellent drive you have now.
