barrelrolled Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I've been trying to burn some dual layer images over the past few days, and I've had some bad luck. However, I've read through a lot of the suggested fixes like using Verbatim discs and updating the firmware, but I'm still getting failures. Here's my log for when I just recently used a Verbatim disc (don't want to waste them ), and thanks for reading my topic. I 16:49:14 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 16:49:14 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2) I 16:49:14 Total Physical Memory: 2,077,048 KB - Available: 1,512,900 KB I 16:49:14 Initialising SPTI... I 16:49:14 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 16:49:14 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD
Cynthia Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Hi and welcome to the forum, barrelrolled! If it's a Dell computer there is a later version of the firmware. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...p;fileid=269697
barrelrolled Posted November 30, 2008 Author Posted November 30, 2008 I'm actually using a macbook pro. Should I still update the firmware, or no?
Cynthia Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Those that's shipped with a Macbook seems to have a firmware like 'AP12'. Was the writer shipped with your Mac or you have installed it afterwards?
barrelrolled Posted November 30, 2008 Author Posted November 30, 2008 Well I did update the firmware for the log in the first post. And I updated it again to the firmware you posted, still with no luck. I 19:05:13 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started!I 19:05:13 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)I 19:05:13 Total Physical Memory: 2,077,048 KB - Available: 1,614,960 KBI 19:05:14 Initialising SPTI...I 19:05:14 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 19:05:43 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD
Cynthia Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Could give it a try. Slimline writers seems to be very tricky to burn DL media.
barrelrolled Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 To follow through, in case anybody was particularly interested in this drive: I brought it to an Apple Store for repair, and they swapped the drive for a Matshita UJ-867. I just burned with this using Verbatims at 2.4x and encountered no problems whatsoever. If you're having problems with the GSA-S10N drive and it's in a MacBook Pro, I highly suggest you get them to replace it. (You should still be under warranty if you have one of those in your system.)
