cornholio7 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 have you tried the nec tab? looks like your drive has an nec chipset http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters/sony-dru-v200a/2528 you really should use verbatim MKM-001 media for dual layer as the probability for the memorex discs to fail is high, see http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000

Ive just been making changes to the setting as Im learning and just hoping it works. I get what its doing but how do i know that I have what i need before i burn it?
robertonawhim Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) this is what im looking like right now. what should do? SONY DVD RW DRU-V200A 1.60 (ATA) Current Profile: DVD+R DL Disc Information: Status: Empty Erasable: No Free Sectors: 4,173,824 Free Space: 8,547,991,552 bytes Free Time: 927:32:74 (MM:SS:FF) Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x DVD Edited December 8, 2008 by robertonawhim
cornholio7 Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 it looks like it has already set the book type as -ROM by your pictures. Physical Format Information (Last Recorded): Disc ID: RITEK-D01-01 Book Type: DVD-ROM make sure you verify your burns to see if what is written is readable See this video for how to Change Booktype
robertonawhim Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) so that would run as a ROM in an xbox360? so if the layer break was good, what then would I have left to calibrate? Edited December 8, 2008 by robertonawhim
robertonawhim Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) use verbatim discs - see post #2 I didnt learn about Verbatim until after I learned that I needed a layer break number. Let alone when I'm at Fry's buying dual layer dvd burner. I'll use them from now on. It would be nice if this was an easier experience. thank you Edited December 8, 2008 by robertonawhim
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 If that .dvd file had the LB value in it, you'd have the LB visible in the 'Sectors' line and you don't. Leave the setting on Calculate optimal.
robertonawhim Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 the funny thing is, a tutorial told me to delete that line of code from .dvd file.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 That's because the tutorial is about 2 years old and nobody ever thinks to update these things.
robertonawhim Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 It's no good. Its telling me that its an "unreadable disk" in the xbox dashboard. I'll try what ever you can offer. and if you need screen shots of anything just say so. I want to be able to do this blindfolded the verify log- I 04:10:29 Cycling Tray before Verify... LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Maybe you'd have more luck if you used decent discs? i.e. Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x made in Singapore. After that, it's probably something with your console - and this isn't the place to be asking for assistance with that.
robertonawhim Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) I pretty sure its the discs. The files on the burnt Memorex disc are the same as the files on the TDK discs I bought from the modder who sold me the chip. So I assume the information is burning well. I wont buy these dvds anymore. I'm getting a different variety next. TDK for now (it's what the guy who modded my xbox uses and their everywhere) Then I'll order some Verbatim discs but I would like some clarification still. currently I'm trying to back up an image of Left4Dead. 1) I think I changed the booktype incorrectly. see image 2) can you tell if this drive is capable of burning DVD-ROMs this web page looks like it doesn't list DVD-ROM under (Supported Media Writing Standards) CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW http://www1.shopping.com/xPF-Sony-Sony-DRU...DE-Retail-Drive 3) If this is a firmware issue and not an Imgburn calibration problem then I can ask at in other forums. cornholio7 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 bitsetting/booktype makes a +R disc -ROM , i think you are misunderstanding this bit. you burn a +R disc , if you have set the booktype to -ROM then players will see it as a dvd-rom the media will not show as rom until after you have made the burn
mmalves Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Your drive automatically booktypes DVD+R DL media to DVD-ROM, so you don't need to worry about that. You just need to use Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x (MKM-001-00 dye) Made in Singapore blanks and it should work
robertonawhim Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 ok, im going to get some TDK discs tonight, hopefully they work. And then I'll use verbatim from here on if it really is this important. I was just wondering if it was something obvious that I was doing. But if you think its ok, then I'll have some faith. Thanks. I just really want to back up my copy of Mirrors Edge really badly.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 'TDK' doesn't mean anything, they're not using a 'TDK' dye, they'll be using CMC, RITEK or RICOH... none of which are anywhere near as reliable / good as the Verbatim ones (which use the MKM dye). With 'TDK' you don't actually know what you're getting until you get them home and look at the Media ID (dye). Basically, you're playing Russian Roulette.
captainvideo Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 'TDK' doesn't mean anything, they're not using a 'TDK' dye, they'll be using CMC, RITEK or RICOH... none of which are anywhere near as reliable / good as the Verbatim ones (which use the MKM dye). With 'TDK' you don't actually know what you're getting until you get them home and look at the Media ID (dye). Basically, you're playing Russian Roulette. Don't use TDK. I was a newbie and ignorantly purchased a 25 disk spindle of TDK DVD+R DL when I first got my external DVD burner. I tried six of them and each one appeared to burn successfully. But then it would start freezing/pixelating as it got close to the layer break. Since everyone recommended Verbatim DVD+R DL (MIS), that is what I purchased next and have not had a single problem with them in well over 50 burns.
robertonawhim Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 (edited) Yeah I'm thinking that I have a media problem. Or at least I hope so. Because getting this to work well will prove easier. the disc I'm using Memorex DVD+R DL 2.4x 8.5gb (media ID) Ritek - D01 - 01 the discs that work well and have been burned already. TDK DVD+R DL 8x 8.5gb (media ID) CMC MAG - D02 - 00 I wonder if that says anything. I'll buy some verbatim discs soon enough, I hope it will all work out. But Im trying these that TDK brand in the mean time. I guess I'm in general disbelief that the media I use could be so important in writing data to a disc. But I wont argue until I get there. thanks. volvofl10 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 to affirm whats been said about the quality of media, especiallly when its dual layer stuff 3 links below for ritek dye, cmc dye ,verbatim dye and on dual layer discs. look how many people have posted there opinions to each dye, then check what the "Good/Mixed/Poor comments are Ritek D01 dye here = 15 comments , 6 say good, 9 say poor = 60% say media is below average CMC MAG D01 dye here = 34 comments, 12 good, 10 mixed, 13 poor = 51% say media is below average verbatim MKM-001 dye ( the one we recomend) AND ive only used the genuine verbatim brand, see bottom of list here = 145 comments , 4 good , 0 mixed , 0 poor = 0% say media is below average and if you work on all the brands using MKM 001 , = 180 comments ,21 good , 6 mixed , 1 poor = 14 % say media is below average. The ritek dye in the link above is what your currently using = 40% good discs CMC Mag dye ( in some TDK discs you was going to buy) = 49% good discs verbatim branded MKM-001 dye ( what we recomend for D/L) = 100% good discs verbatim dye on any brand of media = 86% good discs the details are from a well known site that has held media quality reports for a good few years now, and anyone can post there own findings on media on there. so you buy whatever discs you like, but i suggest you follow the recomendation to get verbatim 2.4x MKM-001 (MIS) as backed up by the statistics on that site. You wont be the first to disbelieve that the media can be so important , and we are saying spend more money on better discs, but past findings say verbs are the only disc to use with DL projects. nothing else even comes close in comparisson.
robertonawhim Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 Not more than two hours ago I brought home my new DVDs and begin just a normal burn of one of the images I'm trying to back up. "at least I'll know if its the media, the firmware or imgburn." The put the TDK DVD+R DL with disk id:CMC MAG-D02-00 into my SONY DVD RW DRU-V200A. I start just a normal burn of one of the .images I'm trying backup. and I let it run. It finishes and I'm skeptical. Long story short; I put it into my console and it runs smooth. "I can't believe it." The problem was corrected by changing brands. I never thought I would say that. In this case the change has more to do with choice of ink and the envisioned use of the disk, but all I did was change brands. Thank you to those who gave me insight into how this software works. Thanks for holding my hand. imgburn is kinda awesome. now I have to go back up more things; because I believe in protecting your property.
cornholio7 Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 i wouldn't trust those discs in the long term verbatims all the way
spinningwheel Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 robertonawhim; So happy that you finally got the crappy discs to burn.... Now...please let us know..say...sometime around Christmas time next year...if the discs are still good and trustworthy. Odds on you'll have degredation of the data to the point that you will have wished you had used Verbs...... And I don't even have to look at my crystal ball to know this... #39;(
robertonawhim Posted December 10, 2008 Author Posted December 10, 2008 Im sure verbatims have been engineered with the purpose of playing in a dvd player or game console in mind. But there are obviously other opportunities to burn successful dvds. If I need a long lasting copy, I will get myself some verbatim. But if I'm just going to back up my games and avoid ware and tare, then I'll keep in mind that some off the shelf brands work to.
