techman Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Drive is only 3 yrs old maybe more? Nah it couldn't be that Seriously you seem to know what could be problems so you should test those theories. I know I just replaced 2 1yr. old Samsung SH-203b drives as they wouldn't burn my Memorex DVD+R DL media at 8x with 2 Samsung SH-223Q drives. The drives are so cheap today if you do a lot of burning be worth it to upgrade anyways
LOCOENG Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 I'll second the notion of obtaining a new drive.
tom942 Posted December 15, 2008 Author Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) Thank you for your opinions . Both are right that it's time to buy a new one, so I'll have to read the reviews on cdfreaks or cdrinfo. I'll have to read about Pioneer, Samsung or Lite-on because I can Edited December 15, 2008 by tom942
tom942 Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Yesterday, after a reboot, I just started ImgBurn (without other programs running on the background) and burnt a DVD+DL. This was the error: I 21:25:52 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 21:25:52 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 21:25:52 Total Physical Memory: 2.096.620 KB - Available: 1.583.856 KB I 21:25:52 Initialising SPTI... I 21:25:52 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 21:25:52 Found 1 DVD-ROM, 1 DVD
blutach Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 It messed up just as it started writing layer 1. So, the drive has had it - it can't focus into layer 1 to write. Regards
