Cynthia Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Hi and welcome to the forum, mrgodzilla! Have you tried to burn a bit faster with the Sony discs? Like at 4x? If your computer is a Dell - there is a later firmware version to install. http://notebook.driversdown.com/notebook-d...000_78941.shtml No disc in the tray when you update Tray closed Restart the computer after the flash
mrgodzilla Posted December 28, 2008 Author Posted December 28, 2008 i did that update. I did not try on 4x speed yet. do you understand what the log says on why it failed?????
Cynthia Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 The issue is that even if the write part of the log shows no problems, the verify part shows that the writer has problems to read the disc. Perhaps try with another brand of media that the burner likes better, if the firmware update/speed change doesn't help.
mrgodzilla Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 Okay i burned the same iso different burner with no issues. i tried another iso(which are wii games for backup purposes) on the last burner i had the problem with and it had no issues at all. both using the same sony 16x dvd-r if i can ask one question is there a certain brand dvd that works better with burners????? and thanks for your help.
Cynthia Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Verbatims seems to be liked by most burners. (Might also be due to the reason that the brand is of higher quality)
mrgodzilla Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 i'll try verbatims but do you mean sony is higher quality or verbatim is
Cynthia Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 In my opinion Verbatim is of higher quality. There are some Verbatims made in China that are of questionable quality. The best ones seems to be made in Singapore. I use +R Verbatims made in India and those are also nice ones. Sony media uses various media codes and some are of high quality. It also depends on where they are manufactured.
mrgodzilla Posted December 30, 2008 Author Posted December 30, 2008 hey cynthia i did the dive update got verbatums did a few succesful burns and then this iso failed here's the log will try 4x speed next and come back with an update. I 12:30:04 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 12:30:04 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 12:30:04 Found 1 DVD
mmalves Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 You might want to try a lens cleaner disc on that drive
LIGHTNING UK! Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Go for 8x discs if that's all the drive can handle. Personally I'd go for Taiyo Yuden 8x (TYG02 dye) if you want DVD-R. I think the TY DVD-R discs are better than the Verbatim ones (assuming the verbs aren't TY dye anyway!). The opposite is true for DVD+R discs though where I then prefer Verbatims to Taiyo Yuden
