I'm using ImgBurn to backup a users documents and settings from a previous system. Before I did this I copied the files to an external hard drive. The total size ended up being around 9.10 gigs.

When I created an image for these directories in ImgBurn I created and burned to a single DVD.

My questions is was ImgBurn able to compress these files into a single DVD or did it only copy what it was able to fit and leave the rest out. I did a quick comparison of directories and files to see if there was anything missing and it all appeared to be an exact copy.

I just find it a little hard to believe that it went from 9 gig's to a 4.7 gig dvd. In the event that the image was too large for the disc would it have spanned out to a second image?

ImgBurn doesn't compress nor spans anything.

Maybe there was a lot of hidden/system files/folders, which, by default, aren't included in the image. Compare the number of files and folders present on the disc with the number of files and folders of the source data and you'll have an idea of what was left out.
