ur insan3 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I know there's a topic about this someone posted on this page but it doesn't seem to help me. I moved down to florida and my computer crashed and i left my xp cd in ohio. My brother ripped the iso and i just downloaded it and attempted to burn it on an imation dvd+r 8x RW DVD and after the process was done I had the Device not ready medium not present issue. Here's my log: ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 - Log ; Wednesday, 07 January 2009, 15:22:17 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 14:34:22 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! Try aplying the firmware update available here. Remove any disc and close the tray before updating. Reboot after it has finished. If that still doesn't work then you'll need to buy a new burner.
ur insan3 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) Alright, just to be sure, when following that link it's the first download on the page that is right for mine correct? Version 1.A3 Just want to make sure so I don't flash my drive with the wrong firmware. Also, in the readme it states: " -This update dont increase speed 8x for DvD+R. -This update dont create a DvD+R9 writing function. -This update dont create writability of DVD-R/ -RW media`s. " With the emphasis on the third bullet. As I'm attempting to burn to a DVD. But my dad has burned DVD movies before with this. Quick help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. Edit: Also, sorry don't mean to be rude at all. My dad just told me he's used these CD's for ages burning his movies. Edited January 7, 2009 by ur insan3
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 ImgBurn cycles the tray before the verify process starts... did you take the disc out or something during that time? I can't think why else it would say there was no disc in the drive - except if it failed to reinitialise it for whatever reason.
ur insan3 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Nope, it opened and closed as it normally did both times I tried it, same error. And no disrespect, it says device not ready, not no disk in drive. Can't see where you read that.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Erm.. the 'Medium Not Present' bit is a big clue. That's what your drive is reporting, ImgBurn isn't making it up.
ur insan3 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Awe. I was looking for a literal " Disk not in drive " Statement somewhere, haha. Anyways, no I don't touch anything during the burning process. Any other ideas?

Mmalves, please :] If you could just answer those few it'd be great. thanks very much!
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 If you put the disc back in now, does the drive see it or does the statusbar still read 'Medium Not Present' somewhere?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Yes, 1.A3 is correct for the ND-1100 drive you have. Your drive only writes to DVD+ (plus) format discs. The readme is simply saying the firmware update doesn't change that fact. (Your drive is VERY old now)
ur insan3 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 When putting in a fresh blank disk it goes through a few messages and then after about 15 seconds ends up with just "Ready" Information on the right: "_NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A 108B (ATA) Current Profile: DVD+R Disc Information: Status: Empty Erasable: No Free Sectors: 2,295,104 Free Space: 4,700,372,992 bytes Free Time: 510:03:29 (MM:SS:FF) Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x "
ur insan3 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) Hate to double post, so I should go along with the firmware update as it should fix the issue? Edit: Exited out of everything, took out the disk that was in the drive and ran the flash utility. It asked me to select a drive and there were none to choose from? ur insan3 Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Reboot in safe mode and try the update again. Still worked to no avail . The drive choices simply show up blank.
Cynthia Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 There was a file in the update package named 'Readme.txt'. >>You can only update from Firmwareversion version 1.A0<< This one seems to be here: http://etna.rpc1.org/nec/
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 It's a dell machine yeah? Use 10GE instead. http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downl...mp;fileid=73793
ur insan3 Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Thanks so much LIGHTNING UK! and mmalves, I appreciate all your help! That last driver link you sent me worked and all proceeded well, the ISO burned perfectly and verified completely. Reinstalling my OS right now. Thanks again!
