I use ConvertXtoDVD for my x.264 mkv files, but I'm sure DVD Flick which is free would do the trick as well....speaking of which I need to try it.

Why are you creating an ISO, to mount, or just 'cause? You can burn the VIDEO_TS folder straight to disc if you wish.

What makes you think it's empty?

You know that any OS before Vista needs a special driver to be able to read/understand UDF 2.50 yeah?

no i didn't know about xp not seeing the udf2.5 driver. thanks guys for the info. I will try ConvertXtodvd.

Thanks again guys.

What i was really wanting to do was create a file xvid/divx that I could copy to my external that I use for my PS3.

Typically, the MKV's I see mentioned in various forums contain Hi Def 720 / 1080p content.

If you convert them to DVD Video or Xvid/DivX format you will of course be losing a lot of the quality.

I would like to keep in a higher quality format but I am restricted my the 4gig barrier on fat32 which is what my external is formatted in.

LIGHTNING UK! I do thank you for the quality info provided bud and to everyone else who has provided input.

you can convert your external drive to NTSF from FAT32 to get round the 4GB restriction of FAT32

I could do that and would, but then my Ps3 wouldn't be about to see the NTFS partition. Ps3 only see's FAT32 partitions.

split the .MKV file then , just google it

isn't there another FS it can read? Even if it's not a standard windows one.

Or get yourself a bluray burner and play from BDRE.

That is exactly what I am doing volvofl10. Its really not that big of a deal to have another file to play midway throught the movie.

i hear what your saying, but without spending money, i dont see any other way round it :(

EDIT

since writing this, i was told of a way to stream large files to a PS3 and have PM'd this info to jneely22
