cuyocksol Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Hi guys, hope someone can advise. I'm still quite new to all this, so be gentle with me pls. :-> I never had probs with the pack of Kodak SL discs I used with my laptop & also TV's video recorder. Now I'm using Philips brand SL which are also fine with the video recorder, but the 1st DVD I've tried to backup with my laptop gives the following error: I 22:50:50 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 22:50:50 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 22:50:50 Total Physical Memory: 458,224 KB - Available: 125,656 KB I 22:50:50 Initialising SPTI... I 22:50:50 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 22:50:51 Found 1 DVD
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 I'm afraid it's just an odd thing that happens with some usb drives and usb controllers. It's been going on for years and nobody ever really got to the bottom of it. Search google and you'll see what I mean.
cuyocksol Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 Is there anything I can do, eg. try another disc from the same pack? What search term can I use to find info on web? thanks

cuyocksol Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 thanks. sorry if you thought my question obvious. To a layman, it's not clear which of the following errors to search for: Potential 'ReadBufferCapacity' Deferred Error - The semaphore timeout period has expired. Failed to Write Sectors 32 - 63 - Reason: Not Ready To Ready Change - Medium May Have Changed
Cynthia Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 This is the one. The semaphore timeout period has expired.
cuyocksol Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 I do suspect the error is occurring only with this media (Philips) in conjunction with the external USB drive. The media works fine on a desktop PC at work, also with my video recorder. And Kodak discs continue to work OK with the USB drive. So.. presumably the media to buy now would be the same recommended in general elsewhere on this forum?
mmalves Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 From our experience Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden blanks give the best quality burns on most burners
