Dmoore Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I can burn an image successfully using DVD-R and Roxio. When I use Imgburn with a DVD-R and the same media I receive an error message that it is the wrong media. What am I doing wrong?

I would suggest you use either TY or Verbatim discs.

Dmoore Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 The CD profile does say MCC and not CMC though.I hope Verbatim isn't trying to pull a fast-one on us. Now you see my confusion. The discs image burns with no problem using Roxio. The image burns fine with Imgburn using el cheapo CMC DVD+R discs.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Just try burning another one. I very much doubt ImgBurn would fail 10 times out of 10 when Roxio works every single time. If it does, let me know and I'll try to see what's causing it.
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 I can?t see why ImgBurn would fail either. Failure could perhaps be measured against the shit job Roxio does with their burn engine. i.e Dumping it onto a disk without caring whether or not there are errors present. It?s far from being the best software available. <personal hate for roxio software mode off>

It appears to burn the lead-in then the infamous "incompatible media" message. Looking at the DVD-R it appears to have burnt a third of the media. The DVD burner is a Sony with the most recent firmware update. I've not tried dual-layer DVD+R yet so I don't know if it's a +R/-R issue.

Addendum: The +/-R burns made with Roxio play fine on our Pioneer DVD Player but not our Phillips using the el cheapo CMC media. Using the Verbatim all burns (Roxio) play on all of our machines. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Imgburn in case I had a bad install.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 The thing is, that error is coming from the drive, it's not something I'm making up. I tell it to write some data, it returns that error. As there is only one way to issue these write commands I really don't see how Roxio can be working any differently. Maybe you've got some bad filter drivers installed that are messing up the communication path between my program (spti) and the drive itself. Roxio probably has it's own drivers and perhaps they're bypassing the problem.
gonwk Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Hi DMoore, Do you happen to have DVDDecrypter on your computer? If so, try burning one of your CMC (Memorex or whatever) using the DVDDecrypter in ISO Write mode. And PLEASE do not use or enable the MKISOFS utility. Now, I am almost sure that your burn will be just FINE. Let me know, please! Gonwk!
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 How would using DVD Decrypter make everything ?Fine?? DVD Decrypter used a prehistoric version of the ImgBurn burn engine which is nowhere near as good as ImgBurn. Changing the I/O from SPTI to ElbyCDIO would be a better suggestion than reverting to outdated software.

Now, I am almost sure that your burn will be just FINE. Let me know, please! Gonwk! I've been using DVDDecrypter for years. Unfortunately with the same results which has me suspect what UKlightening referred to.
lfcrule1972 Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 @r1102 - I have tested some of that dye, it was sold as CMC Unbranded and the results are here... http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=682 As you can see CMC dye is not favoured by those of us wishing to avoid problematic burns and also to have a reasonable shelf life on the discs. That said the TTH02 discs I tested all did ok with my drives..... Personally speaking I would always buy quality discs like Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R's with the TYG02 dye....
