robertrr61 Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I've been burning dual layer DVDs for a while now, using an Optiarc AD7190 drive. Recently I reinstalled Windows and now when I insert a blank DVD DL into the drive, ImgBurn doesn't see it and just displays the "Device not ready (Medium not present - Tray closed)" message. Does this have to do with setting the book type or something? I know the drive works so surely it has something to do with the ImgBurn setup?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 It means the drive can't see the disc. ImgBurn reports the exact error/status code the drive tells it so this is not a software issue. Does it recognise any discs you put in it? (i.e. even original CDs / DVDs)
robertrr61 Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 Now it doesn't even read CDs. I don't get it, it worked perfectly before and I haven't touched the wiring or anything. Could it be a problem with Windows not properly recognizing the device?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Does the message in the status bar change at all when you insert the disc? i.e. when you eject the tray does it change to '.... - Tray Open' ? And having inserted the disc and close the tray, does it then change to something like 'in process of becoming ready' ? If so, it's kinda working but I expect the drive's laser has actually broken. Try the drive in another PC if possible.
robertrr61 Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 Yeah it does all that. Gonna have to try it on another PC. Can the drive's laser just break that easily? I'm sure I haven't hit it or anything since the last time it worked.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Who knows?! We often hear from people where their drive works one minute and not the next. I don't know why they break, sometimes they just do. You can't really expect them to last forever when you can buy them for
robertrr61 Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 By the way, the drive detects and burns blank DVD-Rs, so at least the laser works. Is there a way that only the dual layer functionality is disabled?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 DL's are harder to burn due to their very nature (of having 2 layers!) so if the laser isn't 100% it's quite possible that it won't burn/read them.
robertrr61 Posted January 24, 2009 Author Posted January 24, 2009 Ok, it's probably that then. I'll take it out and try on another PC and if it's really broken I'll just get a new one. Thanks for the help.
