Can't burn to disc - Newbie user

Ok. I am a newbie to burning DVD's and I can't seem to understand why the application is not recognizing the blank dvd-r that is in the drive. I am getting a message that states that the tray is empty when in fact there is a blank dvd-r located in the drive. I successfully used the Ripit4me application to decode the DVD as well as the DVD shrink software. When I actually try to burn to disc using img burn it appears that for whatever reason the media in the drive is not being recognized. I can burn CD's as well as view DVD's on this particular PC so I am perplexed as to what is happening. Please advise on what may be causing this problem.

please post a log, it sounds like have a combo drive that reads dvd's but only writes to cd
