I read the sticky first before deciding to post.

I've had this problem off and on for the past several months. The first time I started getting the PMA update failure messages was last fall. That was because my PC slipped into PIO mode. I fixed that and about 10 burns later I got the PMA message again. At the time I was using Verbatim +Rs. I have an LG burner, and I learned that it sometimes happens with +Rs, so I bought Verbatim -Rs. I didn't even get anywhere with the -R's, I had about 10 coasters. I thought it was strange since Verbatims are apparently the way to go. I live in a remote area and ended up buying Phillips -Rs and burned loads of them with no problem. However, I can't get those in my area anymore either so I bought TDK-Rs..I have used both TDK + and - R's in the past on this burner with no problem. I really just don't know what to do , I'm about ready to scream.

Here is the log:

post your filter driver load order found in the tools menu

I do have the latest firmware for my burner and I did as explained in the tutorial...But I guess I have a lot to learn..I don't know where to find the filter driver load order..what tools menu is that? I've been burning relatively incident-free for 18 months and I've just never encountered this before.

Just to be sure. You have installed the latest fimware version?

I 00:32:40 Destination Device: [0:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H12L VL01 (E:) (ATA)

So when you burn it now says

I 00:32:40 Destination Device: [0:0:0] HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H12L VL02 (E:) (ATA)

You say that you have used these discs in the past with no problems. It might be that TDK changed the dye. Can you check with an old disc that it have this red string. (Insert the disc and select Read mode - you should see the info in the right panel of ImgBurn.)

I 00:32:40 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: CMC MAG. AM3) (Speeds: 4x, 8x, 16x)

Have you tried to burn at 8x speed?

I'm going to try an 8x now...

I found some of the other TDK's I burned on in the past and DVD indentifier says they're TDK..This batchhas the TDK label but are itentified as CMCs, which I'm learning very quickly are crap. Then again, I've had failures with verbatims as well.

Do other companies use CMC to make their discs too?

What does ImgBurn say?

You can't believe the companies that use CMC to make discs for their name brand. CMC is...by far...the biggest problem manufacturer that we see in the DVD marketplace >_<

I am almost certain that I had CMC discs with another manufactuer's label on it last year that didn't work. It might have been some of the Verbatims, but I ended up throwing the whole stack out. It suddenly dawned on me because I remembered CMC was defiantely identified on one other type of DVDS I bought and it wasn't TDK because it's been well over a year since I bought those.

Anyway, my hubby took the TDK/CMCs to his friend's house today to see if they work on his burner or not, so at least I'll know if it's a bad batch of media, or something wrong with my burner, or the fact that my burner just 'dun like them.

I'm a bit annoyed though. Only since these burning problems occurred off and on over the past 6 months did I discover that reputabile brands are just slapping their labels on discs. I never buy cheap media on purpose. I put all 25 of those discs in my burner last night and only HALF of them even came up as CMC at all..the rest couldn't be indentified.

Before this last incident I had about 100 successful burns.

Well, the whole batch of discs is bad. My friend's burning program kept asking him to install a blank disc on them all. Hopefully I'll get a refund for those because this time it's definately a case of bad media. I'll get some different dvds tomorrow and try again and I'll let you know if they are successful burns or not.
