shen293 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Hi I got this error while using Verbatim DVD-R 4.7gb At first I burned 2 successfuly burns with Verbatim but on my third and fourth I got errors This is one of the errors: I 18:27:12 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 18:27:12 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 18:27:12 Total Physical Memory: 981,480 KB - Available: 452,460 KB W 18:27:12 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size. I 18:27:12 Initialising SPTI... I 18:27:12 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 18:27:12 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD
Cynthia Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Hi and welcome to the forum, shen293! Your write error happens very late in the burn and the speed is not very fast. I 19:40:17 Average Write Rate: 998 KB/s (0.7x) - Maximum Write Rate: 1,140 KB/s (0.8x) Could be that you need to enable DMA. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?s=&...dpost&p=967
shen293 Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 Are there other possibilities? btw what does Reason: Spindle Servo Failure mean?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I 18:31:27 Writing Track 1 of 1... (MODE1/2048, LBA: 0 - 2192879)W 19:40:05 Failed to Write Sectors 2058720 - 2058751 - Reason: Spindle Servo Failure 1 hour 10 mins to get to that point! Cynthia is right, you have DMA issues! Because of this, the drive will be running with the 'burnproof' feature working MEGA overtime. Sort your machine out and hopefully they'll work ok then.
shen293 Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 Ok, so here's the deal... Under Device Manager... I have : 2 Primary IDE Channel 2 Secondary IDE Channel 2 Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller Before, I checked that one of my Secondary IDE Channel Current Transfer Mode was on "PIO Mode" and after removing it and rebooting my computer... I finally got it to "Ultra DMA Mode 2" So Now in ONE my Primary IDE Channel this is what I have: Device 0 Device Type: Auto Detection (Cannot change) Transfer Mode: DMA if availabe Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 5 Device 1 Device Type: Auto Detection(Can change) Transfer Mode: DMA if available Current Transfer Mode: Not applicable and in my OTHER (One) of my Secondary IDE Channel this is what I have: Device 0 Device Type: Auto Detection (Cannot change) Transfer Mode: DMA if availabe Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2 Device 1 Device Type: Auto Detection (Cannot change) Transfer Mode: DMA if availabe Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2 So I was wondering if I still have any problems with enabling DMA before I start burning again.. I really dont wanna waste my discs with like trial and error...
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 That looks better You're using DVD-R, just enable 'Test Mode' and try one - it won't actually write to it. If the speed is ok (i.e it take 5 - 15 mins, not 1.5 hours!), turn 'Test Mode' back off again and burn.
shen293 Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 So everything's much better now and I started burning on Test Mode.. It was fine.. and then for the 'real' burning I havta say that the speed is much faster.. was at most 30 mins... much faster than usual..compared to like almost 2 hrs.. I'm pretty happy about it... so heres my log: I 19:17:26 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 19:17:26 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 19:17:26 Total Physical Memory: 981,480 KB - Available: 200,628 KB W 19:17:26 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size. I 19:17:26 Initialising SPTI... I 19:17:26 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 19:17:26 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD
shen293 Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 And one quick question when I burn... what is the tab verify do? should i always check it before I burn? like im not exactly sure what does it verify? thanks..
Cynthia Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Verify will allow you to know that what was burned also was burned without any errors. More or less - it will re read your burned disc and compare it with the original source. So it's a good idea to have it enabled.
shen293 Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) I notice that when I enable it... right after the disc is ejected itself...it pops back in again.. and it seems like everything starts over again...like the burning process.. but that was when my DMA wasnt enabled I believe.. I'll try again and give it a try..thanks and btw verify wouldnt take that long would it? approximately how long would you think? Edited February 5, 2009 by shen293
Cynthia Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I 12:01:00 Operation Successfully Completed! - Duration: 00:05:02I 12:01:00 Average Verify Rate: 15,030 KB/s (10.9x) - Maximum Verify Rate: 21,792 KB/s (15.7x)
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I 19:17:45 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: MCC 03RG20) (Speeds: 2x) That still doesn't look right but you have your drive and its firmware to blame for that. Your initial log was ok in that it correctly reported 16x as a supported write speed.
shen293 Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 I did wonder if my drive was too old... as it is like 4 years old.. and for my firmware...where can I go to update it or so?...
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Try here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...;product=502021
shen293 Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Ok, I updated it and now its faster as you can see below... heres the log..if theres a problem: I also verified it too.. I'm hoping this outcome is more reasonable.. I 19:48:12 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 19:48:12 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 19:48:12 Total Physical Memory: 981,480 KB - Available: 492,380 KB W 19:48:12 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size. I 19:48:12 Initialising SPTI... I 19:48:12 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 19:48:12 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 The speeds the drive is reporting still aren't at all consistent but I guess something is better than nothing
