Which format to choose when converting

When using dvdflick/imgburn to author and burn files to dvd, what is the best format to convert to (avi, mpeg, etc.) Will any particular one expedite the process? Thanks.

If you want to be sure that it will play on most stand alone players, it should be to DVD format.

I don't mean to be rude, but how is this related to ImgBurn? DVD Flick only uses ImgBurn to burn the converted DVD, so I think you'd get better answers if you posted at DVD Flick's forum.
