shen293 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Hi, as mentioned above.. I successfully burned the dvd.... and before that I checked on the box " Verify" however, it doesn't fully verify it and I get and Error This is my log, I would like to know what the problem is... I would appreciate it too..thanks I 22:08:04 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! mmalves Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 I 22:08:25 Destination Device: [2:0:0] HP DVD Writer 740b HJ24 (E:) (ATA)I 22:08:25 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: MCC 03RG20) (Speeds: 4x) I 22:25:40 Source Media Type: DVD-R (Book Type: DVD-R) (Disc ID: MCC 03RG20) (Speeds: 4x, 8x, 12x, 16x) I think your burner is giving up: at the time of burning, it didn't correctly identify the media and possibly used a generic write strategy that didn't work well, resulting in a bad burn. You can see that, at the time of verifying the disc, the burner correctly identified the media (notice the available write speeds). Burners are pretty cheap nowadays so you might want to get a new one
shen293 Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 Another question, does the difference matters between internal burners and external burners.. like is one better than the other... or is it basically the same?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 They're normally the same hardware, one is just in a shell (i.e. the external case). If you have the option (and you have a desktop pc rather than a laptop), always go internal. If you have a laptop, you're probably better off with an external because the slim-line drives are generally rubbish!
shen293 Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 I would most likely purchase an external burner eventho I have a desktop pc hope it wouldn't matter much, would it? And right after I posted the first log on this topic... I can't seem to burn anything at all I keep getting the error: Invalid address for write Unknown Vendor Unique.... and I was wondering if what mmalves said was right... that my burner is giving up on me/ starting to die? Here is my log: I 23:04:55 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 23:04:55 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 23:04:55 Total Physical Memory: 981,480 KB - Available: 309,276 KB W 23:04:55 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size. I 23:04:55 Initialising SPTI... I 23:04:55 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 23:04:55 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Externals run on much slower / cpu intensive interfaces (i.e. usb) and you then run the risk that you might get semaphore timeout errors. Don't ever go external just because you can't be bothered to open up your case!
shen293 Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 thx. For the advice..n is my burner dying out or u can't tell from the log?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Something certainly isn't right. You'd have to try it in another PC and another drive in your PC to be sure.
shen293 Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 I'll do that and thanks loads for the help guys!
