colli003 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) hello everyone, i'm not very technically savy, but i am trying to burn some of my mom's old home movies to dvd for her. I had a nec 3530a 104c that would only burn the first layer of a verb dl at 2.4x then it would fail with a write, sync, atip, medium error. So i bought a new pioneer dvr-116dbk had problems so flashed it to version 1.09. still having problems. My drive will write to a sony rw and to a sony +r disc, but will not write to any dl disc i have tried (two different spindles of verb dl made in singapore and memorex dl {i know memorex was a waste of money, i'm learning }) at 2.4x. These fail with this message. here is the log. I 20:49:37 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 20:49:37 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 20:49:37 Total Physical Memory: 1,038,412 KB - Available: 559,036 KB I 20:49:37 Initialising SPTI... I 20:49:37 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 20:49:38 Found 1 DVD Edited February 13, 2009 by colli003
Cynthia Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Hi and welcome to the forum, colli003! ImgBurn can create ISO files. I guess it's a DVD movie you are trying to burn? if so - you can have the layer-break set where you wish it to be. Can you check if you have any 'odd' stuff installed, by posting this information. Main Menu -> Tools -> Filter Driver Load Order; in that window - press the 'Copy To Clipboard' button and paste the info into a posting window here. Pioneers generally likes speed. 6x is generally crappy on most writers. 2,4x/4x/8x are the ones that should work best.
colli003 Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 here is the filter stuff. i will also try burning at 4 and 8x thanks for the reply and help. i greatly apreaciate it =============================================== Filter Driver Load Order - ImgBurn v2.4.2.0 =============================================== Upper Device Filter: redbook Upper Class Filter: pwd_2k Upper Class Filter: GEARAspiWDM Device: CD/DVD-ROM Device Lower Class Filter: drvmcdb Lower Class Filter: PxHelp20 Lower Device Filter: imapi Filter Name: redbook File Name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\redbook.sys File Version: 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2108) File Description: Redbook Audio Filter Driver Product Name: Microsoft

Cynthia Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I'm crappy with filters - so I guess it's safest for you to wait for somebody that knows this stuff better. I'm in Vista environment so I have forgot what should work in a XP.
colli003 Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 so after the last error i tried to eject the disc with the imageburn eject button and it came up with the error message i'm attaching. Thank yall so much again another_burn_error.bmp

Cynthia Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 The firmware you flashed - the 1.09 version - was that an original from the Pioneer web page?
LIGHTNING UK! Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 If you've tried 2 spindles of singapore made verb dl's and you've tried burning at all the supported write speeds, it's time to consider the drive 'dead'. To be sure though, put the drive in another pc and check it still fails. Filter wise, you can try removing these ones: Upper Class Filter: pwd_2k Upper Class Filter: GEARAspiWDM Lower Class Filter: drvmcdb Lower Class Filter: PxHelp20
colli003 Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 yes it was an original flash from the pioneer corporate website. ok i know nothing about filters, never heard of them until now. but i will do some research and try to get back to you guys. Thanks for all your help. ive got to go on a business trip for the weekend so i'll try to get back with yall on monday. THanks again for taking your time to help me.
Cynthia Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 my pioneer is jumpered as cs it is the only drive on my ide cable. at one time i had my old drive in the slave position but currently have it removed. (which upon restart requires me to press F1 in order to ignore the fact that it cant find the slave drive) I doubt it will do any difference, but set it as master instead.
mmalves Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 And connect the burner to the black connector at the end of the cable (the blue one should go on the motherboard)
