HoRneDieSeL Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Maybe you guys can help me sort out whether or not I have bad media or a burner that is starting to go out? In the beginning, everyone was told to use CloneCD but I have always preferred to use ImgBurn for the verify features. I have been trying to burn a few backups and have had mixed luck... some will burn 100% and verify 100% whereas others will make burn 100% but will fail at the 50% mark. I purchased 2 packs of 25 RiDATA DVD+R DL 8x about a year ago (burning at 1x or 2.4x) and the first batch had a few coasters (5 or so), some of which were my fault but it appears that I am tossing a more in the trash this time. The other discs I was using are ones that I picked up on closeout, Nexxtech 8x which are currently having a good burn ratio 4:4 so far... I currently don't have any Verbatim discs at the moment since I had such good luck last time with the RiDATA ones. My burner, Lite-On SHM-165H6S is from 2006 and it has the latest firmware that was applied, HS0E and book-type is set to DVD-ROM. Even though these are different images that I am burning, I am selecting the .dvd file to burn the game. If I select the .dvd file, does the setting need to be enabled under Settings > Write > Options > Layer Break > User Specified > Sectors in L0: 1913760 ? UNSUCCESSFUL write that happened this morning (Ritek RiDATA): I 07:44:29 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started!I 07:44:29 Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition (6.0, Build 6001 : Service Pack 1)I 07:44:29 Total Physical Memory: 3,135,248 KB - Available: 1,892,316 KBI 07:44:29 Initialising SPTI...I 07:44:29 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...I 07:44:51 Found 1 DVD-ROM, 1 DVD
mmalves Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 The .dvd file tells ImgBurn where the layerbreak should be, so there's no need to mess with the settings. Apart from Verbatim, other brands use the cheapest dye they can find to manufacture their disc, and the result is many coasters. Get Verbatim 2.4x (MKM-001-00 dye) Made in Singapore blanks and you'll have good burns
