Burning at different speed than specified?

Recommended Posts

I burnt a disc this morning, DVD+R DL and when I specify the speed to 1 or 2.4x, the log file shows that it has burnt at 4x.

Why would it burn at a different speed than what I set it to? The discs support up to 8x but I get better results when I burn them slower.

This disc also failed at about 50% where the layer break was supposed to happen.

Thanks!

Your drive needs to actually support burning that media at that speed.

Look at the 'Supported Write Speeds' in the disc info on the right.

So if to the right it says: (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x) I need to burn at those speeds or else it will not burn properly?

Or does it mean that 4x is the slowest speed that it will burn?

Thanks!

No, it just means that the drive will semi ignore the speed you tell it to burn at if it's not one of those.

i.e. 1 - 4 = 4x

6 = 6x

8 - Infinity = 8x
