cornholio7 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 the lowest supported speed with that firmware is 4x I 20:11:16 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: CMC MAG-D03-64) (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x)
uggitt Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Thank you for the reply. Any idea which firmware to use for the NEC 3550A as I want to burn slower than 4x Thanks in advance Ugg...
mmalves Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Burning at a slower speed won't give you a better quality burn because, simply put, the media you're using is pure crap. Have you read this thread?
uggitt Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 I have been using these discs for years with a pioneer 110d writer and never had a problem, so I would not say they are crap. They are only rated at 2.4x, hence the problem as imageburn is writing them at 4x or more. This is why the discs are not working correctly. Does any one know the correct firmware so i can get 2x or 2.4x writing rate on DL discs? Thanks in advance Mark...
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I have been using these discs for years with a pioneer 110d writer and never had a problem, so I would not say they are crap. Why don't you Google 'CMC MAG-D03-64' before you say that. Unless an earlier version of the firmware for your drive offered different speeds, you're probably out of luck. It might even be the case that 'CMC MAG-D03-64' is an 8x dye but the quality control is so bad that the people who stick their name on them write 2.4x because they think people will have a better chance of getting a working disc at that speed.
mmalves Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 You were lucky then because your Pioneer DVR-110D burner was using a generic write strategy on those blanks (provided all of them were CMC MAG-D03-64): Media Code Speed Edit V 1.1.0.21 ------------------------------------------ Firmware: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D1.41 06/04/17 Bootcode: ------------------------------------------ Overall supported media types: 250 ------------------------------------------ DVD+R9 supported media types: 10 DVD+R supported media types: 72 DVD+RW supported media types: 21 DVD-R9 supported media types: 2 DVD-R supported media types: 102 DVD-RW supported media types: 28 DVD-RAM supported media types: 15 ------------------------------------------ DVD+R9 supported media types: 10 ------------------------------------------ CMC MAG_ D01 2.4x MKM_____ 001 8x,6x,4x,2.4x MKM_____ 003 8x,6x,4x,2.4x PRODISC D01 2.4x RICOHJPN D00 2.4x RICOHJPN D01 2.4x RICOHJPN D01 2.4x RITEK___ S04 2.4x SONY J01 SONY J11 Verbatim uses MKM-001-00 (2.4x) and MKM-003-00 (8x) dyes for its DVD+R DL blanks, and as you can see, they're much better supported even on old burners.
LOCOENG Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 They are only rated at 2.4x, hence the problem as imageburn is writing them at 4x or more. This is why the discs are not working correctly. This has nothing to do with Imgburn....use any program which shows you supported speeds as reported by the firmware/drive/media combo and you'll see exactly the same thing.
spinningwheel Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 so I would not say they are crap. And that puts you square within the vast majority of the great unknowing who are not willing to learn...doesn't it????
uggitt Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 Ok, learnt my lesson.... Thanks for the info. I will buy different dics from now on ugg..
