I'm attempting to burn a DL DVD using Verbatim 4x DVD-R DL discs. I'm getting the following error:

E 09:20:53 Failed to Reserve Track! - Reason: Cannot Format Medium - Incompatible Medium

Well, it appears that my drive does not support DVD-R DL, only DVD+R DL. Gah!

 

Isn't it true that DVD-R is more compatible with older DVD players?

For dual-layer media DVD+R DL is the type to use and will work on most DVD players. As for single layer media, you'd have to test your particular DVD player, or at least search with Google to see other users' experiences with that device.

DVD-R might be more compatible than DVD+R because it's been around longer, however the opposite is true for DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL.

 

DVD+R DL are infinitely more common.
