Another member (PhrozenImpact) just created a topic that is similar to the error I'm getting, but a bit different so I thought I should create a new topic. What I notice is that my buffer is not filling up when READING discs (which happen to be Verbatim). On occasion the buffer will fill up to 2 or 3%, but then quickly falls back to 0%. I have two drives in my computer and have the same exact results with both drives (so it's probably safe to say it's not the drives). I've reset my primary and secondary channels to DMA, but that wasn't it. Having 0% buffer, has caused me to get I/O errors on occasion.

On the other hand, when I burn a disc (again, using Verbatim) my buffer actually fills up - but usually jumps around quite a bit and sometimes falls very close to 0%. So far I've been lucky and have only made a couple coasters, but I'm dying to know exactly what my computer is doing. If I use NERO, I get the same buffer fluctuations. I'm not running multiple applications at the same time.

I've researched quite a bit and have change Imgburn's Interface to use my VSO pcouffin driver, but that didn't resolve anything. I uninstalled my IDE Controller and reinstalled (hoping if it was a corrupt driver this would fix it), but still no luck. I've tried doing a System Restore to 30 days ago (when the problem didn't exist) and also no luck. Reformatting isn't really an option for me...

Does anyone know why my buffer isn't filling up when reading Verbatim DL DVDs?

Here's my last log when READING a disc - no errors this time around tho - not sure if this will even help

Hi and welcome to the forum, NateS! :)

What I notice is that my buffer is not filling up when READING discs (which happen to be Verbatim). On occasion the buffer will fill up to 2 or 3%, but then quickly falls back to 0%.

That is normal.

The buffer will only be used if the hard disk can't write enough fast as your writer can read. Normally hard disks writes faster than a reader can read.

The other issue seems to me that you either are using your hard disk at the same time as you're burning or that the hard disk is not in DMA mode.

There is also a later firmware if you want to install it.

Thanks for your quick response and the firmware recommendation. I'm going to give that a shot, but judging by the fact that both drives seem to be having read/write problems - I'm not 100% sure if that will fix it. The last burn (3 mins ago) also failed to read the disc. Here's the log:

Anything stand out for why I am having issues reading discs? The ISOs are being saved to a 1 TB Harddrive that only has about 150 Gigs left - could it be a defrag issue with the Harddrive?

The problem is the hard disk, so the firmware was just a note that there is a later version, so it will not help you with your issue.

Your hard disk can't read fast enough to feed the burner with the data it need to be able to write in one steady stream.

If the disc isn't dirty/scratched then it's damaged. Try cleaning it and reading with the Samsung burner.
