techman Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Hi all, I done a lot of changes to my system and now I need to burn some DVD+R and DVD+R DL media again so I installed latest version of Imgburn and reset to it to default settings. I need to update this later as now finding that the disk was not written to. I will try now to see what happens burning from a different drive. As a side note I patched my drives with the a Samsung Utility found at so I may need to revert to normal BIOS as well. Will post again after Ive done some testing http://codeguys.rpc1.org/ Here is the log...... I 11:43:39 ImgBurn Version 2.4.4.0 started! mmalves Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Try burning at 8x or 12x, or 16x at most if you have the need for speed
techman Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 Would burning at to high a speed speed be causing a no burn situation?

LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 So was that the disc you just burnt to? As in THE actual disc? It seems a bit odd that the drive would report success to all of the disc writing commands without actually making a single change to the disc. What controller is that drive connected to for it to be being reported as using a 'Fibre' interface?!

LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Ok so now try slowing the burn down to 8x or 12x. Have you tried other discs? Do the discs you've just tried to burn actually look like they've been burnt on the bottom? Do you have the latest nvidia nforce drivers installed? Whichever way you look at it, reporting 'Fibre' is just plain wrong.
techman Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 Ok an update to my situation I own a stack of 100 VerbatimDVD+R and CDRs YEA! which serve me well and waiting to try some 8x DVD+R DL media which I now use for mastering my data. I also have 350 Memorex DVD+R 16x and 100 Memorex DVD++R DL media boo! which I have no other recourse other that to use them or trash them so trying to see how fast I can burn these reliably. Ok so now try slowing the burn down to 8x or 12x. Have you tried other discs? See above as the burn went fine with the Verbatim media Do the discs you've just tried to burn actually look like they've been burnt on the bottom? yes they do Do you have the latest nvidia nforce drivers installed? Whichever way you look at it, reporting 'Fibre' is just plain wrong. I have 15.23 driver which last I looked was fastest and most reliable. I will now change the media speed on the Memorex 16 DVD+R to 12x and lower to 8x to see how that works. What speed is good for the Memorex DL media? LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Do you have access to any other drives (non samsung) that you can put those burnt discs into? I don't get why your drive says it's burning them ok and then reports the disc info as though it was still a brand new blank disc.

techman Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 Well whats not funny is I thinking now when I decided to stock up and buy 500 of the memorex media I was using mid code be sure I was buying something that I tested that was working. I was using verbatim media at the time as well
LIGHTNING UK! Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 So potentially you have 500 MMC-004-00 branded by Memorex that your Samsung drives refuse to burn?
techman Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 Just rechecked my supply 250 left now and all have same code from random checks on the stacks. I threw a ton of toasters away got tired saving them as memorex wanted me to ship back all the claimed defective disks for replacement. Also have about 80 DL memorex to test next. Think memorex would give me a replacement for all I believe I have all receipts? Think I would get back same media or something that will burn properly?
spinningwheel Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Mostly Memorex re-badges CMC discs, I'd call and ask them since you have such a large amount in stock.
