I'm not sure how hard it would be to implement, but if when a new update came out. Rather than having to manually download it from the site. If the program could grab the update and install the update itself, that would be slick.

hmmm, that would be cool actually....

or if people could only download the Binaries and drop them in their install folder...

Some progs do this - PgcEdit, Filezilla are 2 I can think of.

But is it so hard to download an exe file and run it? C'mon now!

I think a majority of users wouldn't appreciate a program automatically downloading updates and installing them for you...how would you like it if Micro$oft did it for you automatically with all their wonderful updates?

Well it wouldn't download automatically... It would say. ImgBurn has an update. Would you like to download and install, you could then answer yes or no. There are a lot of apps that have this functionality built in.

uTorrent is another program that has such a feature...

AND that has what all to do with Imgburn????? <_<

Oh, it has nothing to do with ImgBurn....

I just made an addition to blutach said...

But, I mean so what? Is the update procedure so totally onerous? I mentioned FIlezilla, cos it has frequent builds and this procedure is useful. But how often does a new ImgBurn come out?

It's not so easy to code an auto-self-update feature which can work for users who don't have Administrator rights.

I hope none of us here are running routine tasks as Administrator :rain::chair::P

I think it's best for a program to auto-check whether there's a new version, but leave the installing of same to be done manually in a special Administrator session.

Disclaimer: I don't have Vista and later, so don't know whether some UACish feature makes that easier to do slickly yet safely.
