Still, despite of the brilliance of your software, I encountered a bitter problem with burning double layer DVDs. Unfortunately, I did not save the log file? but I'll try to explain (lamer, right) what happened. This is the irreparable error that is detected during verification of burnt DVD+R DL via "Burn files/folders to disc" using authored "VIDEO_TS" folder content, at 50% (transition point that is), and confirmed by later check on hardware DVD player. I am using Verbatim (MMC 004) discs, external DVD drive, which is an LG body combined with ASUS drive, USB-connected, powered from mains, Windows XP SP3 OS. After first failure I tried burning different media with the same poor result. Then I tried using internal DVD+/-RW drive of my laptop (Samsung R508) - in latter case, the error was the failure of disc finalizing after 3 attempts. So, the question is: is it me or is it you? I had similar problem before, and that was me, namely, my DVD drive that got burnt (literally) and I spoiled numerous blank discs before I got that. Now the drive seems to be okay when burning single layer DVD+R-s. I rely on your experience and feedback on similat problems to realize if I need to purchase new burning drive or change my blank discs supplier (I found no signs of fraud on the discs and package) Thank you in advance, waiting for the reply Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I checked your link, and it seems that everything's correct and the only thing remaining is cleaning the drive of buying new one. David Watts Posted June 9, 2011 Author Share Posted June 9, 2011 According to ImgBurn 2.5.5.0, lower speed cannot be set, and when I select 4x, it is switched to 6x, so, I presume, 6x is the minimum speed of my drive. Anyway, I burnt a lot of successful DL projects in previous months at 6x speed. Do you think that drive shall be changed? The thing is that this error occurred eight times in succession. Why are you saying that ImgBurn don't let you? Do you get a write speed miscompare in the log when you select 4x? An USB drive is nice to have around for specific tasks. The problem is that between the drive and mainboard can interfere more problems like cables and controller drivers. An internal full size drive will always be the best choice for burning any kind of discs. Try discs from different spindle to rule out the bad batch. If that don't go either, look for a new drive. I was having similar problems and then tried it at 4x on my internal LG drive and it worked fine, I had so many problems when trying to burn with my external LG. This message was appearing every time I tried to set 4x speed - since I began using the drive in question. So I simply started setting speed at 6x, as the slowest possible. BUT (it suddenly struck me) I've changed my laptop about a month ago, and since that I never tried setting 4x speed, so I should possibly try. Thank you. The reason I ask about external drive is that I am using it with laptop PC, where built-in drive is rubbish. The thing is that the drive I used before got burnt for no good reason. It was powered from the mains, and in Ukraine, where I live, voltage drops is a not very common, but still existing problem. and far as I understand, socket powered drive is more vulnerable to these swings, especially in the process of burning. BlizzardUK, my previous drive was LG) Not sure about internal, this is some stuff that Samsung installs on all their laptops, and, when I tried it, as I mentioned above, it failed finalizing disc. Internal drive on my wife's lappy is working well, but, according to my experience of extensive use of internal notebook drives on various models - it is a matter of time. Thank you for your link.
