from the looks of your log your firmware doesn't support the discs at all. There should be a line that has the supported write speeds and the manufacturers id,this is mine

I 15:03:56 Destination Device: [1:0:0] _NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG 2.1B (F:) (ATA)

I 15:03:56 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: MCC 03RG20) (Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x, 12x, 16x)

is the firmware you have a hacked version by The Dangerous Brothers ? You can try other media we reccommend Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden

Tdk discs are not that good

I have just tried a new set of blank disc they are verbatim DVD+R. Im still getting the same result. The still dont seem to be registering when I check the log. I have run a disk identifer program and it doesnt seem to pick up the disk either. I have not done anything with the firmware it is still the same as when I got the computer 2 yrs ago from Dell. I was able to burn using magmedia disks before I tried ImgBurn.

Do you recall ever seeing the info that polo posted above ? As he said there is no MEDIA ID or write speeds shown in your log.

Maybe the drive has broken ? I see from the rpc1.org site (firmware updates) that there is no update available, I don't know anything about that drive but given that you have had it at least 2 years it may have just retired itself. :/

The firmware page is here if you wanted to check:

having a couple of NECs myself I went to the official site and couldn't even find the drive WTF closest was a 6500, beats me

further looking I see its a notebook drive slim line 8X but to not be listed on NECs site cant explain that or is it another Dell disaster

chalk it up to poor eyesight, old age, whatever, but I still dont see a ND6100 a 5100 yes a 6500 but no 6100

hey Spinner are we getting confused I posted a couple of lines on what his log should look like using my nd3500 and some verbs to show the supported speeds and the Media id but thats my drive and it has the 2.1b FW for a good while
