There is a later firmware version BSOY to install.

If you install:
No disc in the device
Tray closed
All other programs closed
If that doesn't work. Try to get some Verbatims made in Singapore - the 2.4x rated ones are the best.
Also, if you are burning a DVD Video compilation - use ImgBurn instead as you can preview and manually select where you want the layer break to happen.
