  1. Thank you very much Lightning UK and Ianymaty for your time and effort in assisting and providing the information. I now have all the info for my BIOS and drivers update. It is greatly appreciated. Regards, Leeroy17
  2. Thank you Lighting UK for your wealth of information. Yes, I agree with you that I should apply the lastest update for BIOS and drivers. I have downloaded the BIOS and drivers. I will apply the drivers first. Then I need to look at the procedure how to flash the BIOS (FB version). I read a few procedures, they vary slightly from each other. Apprently, I need to place the BIOS FB (mb_bios_ga-x58a-ud5_2.x_fb.exe) on a flash drive etc., Your help would be appreciated. Thank you. Leeroy17
  3. Thank you for your response LIGHTNING UK I wish to advise my CPU is Intel i7 960 3.2GHz, and Motherboard Gigabyte X58A-UD5 (Rel 2) As per your instructions, upon boot up, the first screen (at the top), it mentioned the BIOS V6.00PG. 'msinfo32' display the following: OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600 Other OS Description Not Available OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name Leeroy-I7 System Manufacturer Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. System Model X58A-UD5 System Type x64-based PC Processor Intel® Core i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20GHz, 3193 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) BIOS Version/Date Award Software International, Inc. FA, 20/04/2010 SMBIOS Version 2.4 Windows Directory C:\Windows System Directory C:\Windows\system32 Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume3 Locale Australia Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "6.1.7600.16385" As indicated above, the BIOS Version is Software International, Inc. FA, 20/04/2010. It's the first release. Latest version is FB dated 24/08/2010 (Enhance CPU, DDR, PCIex16/x8 compatibility USB3.0 chip legacy support Enhanced SATA3 RAID). From the Gigabyte website, it mentioned: "Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. To flash the BIOS, do it with caution. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction" Presently I do not encounter any problems, do I need to update the latest BIOS version FB?. Reference to your initial recommendation. You are referring to drivers update, not BIOS. Right?. 1) http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=10884 - (Chipset: Intel® Chipset Device Software for Intel® Desktop Boards) INF_allOS_9.1.2.1008_PV.exe latest ver 9.1.2.1008 date: 09/29/2010 2) http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=15251 (RAID: Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Intel Desktop Boards) You mentioned the 3rd one down, please confirm this is the correct one?. STOR_allOS_9.6.0.1014_PV.exe latest version 9.6.0.1014 date 03/19/2010. 3) ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/SATA_Controller/Windows/ (the JMicron driver) 10/04/2010 08:22AM 4,138,460 JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.59_WHQL.zip 10/04/2010 08:22AM 4,678,633 JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.59_WHQL_eSATA.zip The above are the latest drivers, do I need to apply both drivers. What's the difference between WHQL & eSATA?. I do not wish to use RAID on my PC, and confirm that RAID has been turned off in the BIOS. I'm most grateful for your recommendation Lighting UK. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. I thank you in anticipation of your response. Leeroy
  4. Regarding the "BIOS update FB - 3.Enhanced SATA3 RAID mode" where do I check which is installed?. Yes. Previously the DVD drive was connected to a white sata port (channel 5 - slave). It has now been changed to a blue sata port (channel 3 - master). Does it matter that it is now connected to a master instead of slave?. It appears that the Channels (master & slave) numbers do not correspond with the sata port numbers. Physically, the DVD drive is connected to blue Sata2_5 port (as illustrated on the manual diagram). On the BIOS, it's says channel 3 master. Are the sata port nos suppose to relate to the channels nos (master & slave)? Thanks.
  5. Thank you for your suggestions. I wish to follow your directions above, but I'm not familar what it means, and how to update the drivers?. Regards, Leeroy
  6. My I/O +R DL Burning problem resolved Initial my DVD drive was connected to sata2 port 5 slave which appears to have RAID. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 which has 10 sata ports. Sata2 is 0 to 5, Gsata2 is 8 to 9, and Gsata3 is 6 to 7. From the manual, the ICH10R controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10. I had a look at the BIOS, all RAID functions have been disabled, and set to IDE. However, from my I/O error encountered, it still say it's a RAID port. This I don't understand? To change to another sata port, I had to wrestle with the port configurations. The port numbers are not configured to the diagram mentioned in the manual. I had to go through the process to find out the port id physically by connecting to each one. Eventually, I found sata2 port 3 Master (unable to locate slave) without RAID. Excuted the burning process, no I/O error, and burning process completed successfully with a no error log. However, the burn disk was not playable as it had a few lines on the burn data area. Next upgraded to V2.5.2.0. It burned successfully and the disk was playable on several DVD players. So my resolution is: 1. Changed to another port that has no RAID (recommeded by ianymaty) 2. Upgrade to V 2.5.2.0 (recommeded by Rincewind) I would like to thank ianymaty and Rincewind for their help. Regards, Leeroy
  7. Hi ianymaty, I believe you have identify my problem. I was wondering why on earth the DVD drive has RAID. I don't use RAID. This is my new PC and has been configured and installed by the company I purchased from. I'll will attempt your resoultions above and advise the outcome. Thanks again ianymaty. Leeroy17
  8. Riteks are not the best media, especially for DL media, though yes you can do even worse than Ritek (CMC-Magnetics). The best DVD+R DL media is Verbatim (MKM-xxx) from Singapore. Still try updating to the latest version of imgburn 2.5.2 and update your firmware (if updates are available) and try again, but you will have better luck with Verbatims. Even if you do successfully burn/verify a Ritek DL, playback is not guaranteed on a dvd player, Verbatims have much better compatibility rates. Also remember to clean your drive (if it is an older drive). Good luck. Thanks for your prompt response Rincewind. If you read my posting at the begining, I have no problems in burning with the RITEK-S04-66 media on my OLD PC expect on my NEW PC. I have never had a problem with Ritek +R DL on my OLD PC and playback on several DVD players do not encounter any issues. So I'm repeating that only different that cause the I/O error would be: 1. Windows 7 (new PC) as opposed to XP (Old PC) 2. DVD: Drive SAMSUNG SH-B083L (new PC) as opposed to Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-216 (old PC) The same on both PCs. IngBurn V2.5.1.0 RITEK-S04-66 media The Firmware on the DVD Drive SAMSUNG SH-B083L (new PC) is the latest. No update required. Analysing the above, my new PC problems will be related to: Windows 7 and the DVD Drive. Your response is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Leeroy17
  9. Dear Support, Can you please help?. My previous PC using Win XP, ImgBurn Version 2.5.1.0 had no problems burning dual +R DL with the same media. Now I have a new PC using Windows 7,ImgBurn Version 2.5.1.0, DVD SAMSUNG DVDWBD SH-B083L. I encountered the following dialog box error: I/O Error Device [0.0.0]: SAMSUNG DVDWBD SH-B083L SB01 (I:) (RAID) ScsiStatus:0x02 Interpretation: Check Condition CDB 2A 00 00 0E B0 40 00 00 20 00 Interpretation: Write (10): Sectors: 962624 - 962655 Sense Area: 00 x 18 Interpretation" No additional Sense Information Retry or Cancel? 10. My main reason for posting this is to make users aware that there ia another option to use DVD-R DL. Isn't this forum use to spread our findings?.
  11. I have been using Acronics True Image for several years. It's the best backup you can buy. I had several HDD issues and the data recovery for the Primary & Secondary disks is very efficient. Not forgetting ImgBurn - the best & the greatest!. I've have now dropped Nero 8. I second your recommdation LIGHTNING.
  12. See Guide for DL below http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=1780
  13. Do you have a Panasonic DVDR?. I have a Panasonic DVDR and have a the same problems as you. If I play it on any of my Pioneer, it does NOT skip. Panasonic drive is quite notorious and well know for this issue. It may not be the type of discs you are using. I use the Ritek & TDK 8x DVD-R, together some skip and some do not on the Panasonic but again NOT on the Pioneer DVDR.
