ok thanks alot LUK
I'll try that out in a bit
but I don't really get to why it would work best if the "unable to lock volume" is on the screen
as it is reported an error?
just trying to understand.. if you dont mind.thanks

Do you really get no results when searching for 'cdrom' or 'E:' (only search for 'E:' when cdrom doesn't find anything)?
Obviously you can only search when ImgBurn has actually said it can't lock the volume, if you leave the pc or reboot it etc then there's no point in searching.
Yes, I really get no results when searching for 'cdrom'
which was why I searched for 'E' and gave me the results...
It's been a while since I burned DVDs now... as I am waiting for Verbatim coming in
so hopefully the next time I burned it would be 100% successful..
And when the error "Failed to lock volume for exclusive access" pops up
Am I suppose to do the search for 'cdrom' or Am i suppose to do that even before I start burning?
and I noticed everytime I get the error " Failed to lock volume for exclusive access"
it would be at like 40% .... sometimes 80% (which sucks) and after getting that error...
I end up losing that 1 more extra disc as I do not use a rewritable one..
Is there any way to avoid wasting an extra disc ... (eventho I highly doubt)

Are you getting the unable to lock volume message when trying to burn? You only need to do what the FAQ says when you're getting that message and don't know which program is holding the drive.
I am getting the ubable to lock volume message..
and currently I am trying to fix it through the FAQ
if anything I'll post it up...thanks

Thanks for the notice,
and after reading the FAQ,
I'm a little confused
Well I know that this is my error:
E 09:23:20 Failed to lock volume for exclusive access.E 09:23:20 Reason: Access is denied.
which you said that another program is using the drive (which I get it)
and after using ProcessExplorer and did the search as you said..
This was the part I was confused...
I didnt just find 1 thing... I found 34 things running...
so the question is should I close all of it? (or would that disrupt my computer system) as in would it harm it in anyway? - just curious
thanks...

Hi,
Does the following log says that my media has supported writing speed of: 4x,8x,12x,16x ?
and that I burned it at a speed of 2x?
So I'm guessing where it says
Write Speed: (This would be the speed that I asked them to burn it at?)
And since I think I burned it at 2x and not the supported writing speed
Would this to why this operation was unsuccessful ? im kinda new to this.. so I'm trying to learn..thanks guys

LIGHTNING UK,
So For Log 1: I would try to burn at 8x speed and post up the results
as For Log 2: I don't get what I'm really supposed to do..
I read it up on FAQ and did as what you say..
except when I search up "E:" on Process Explorer, I get 36 matching items ( after clicking 'Find' -> 'Find Handle')
as when I search up "cdrom" on Process Explorer, I get 0 matching items
And you said to click search on it... which I did and understood it too..
But Should I like terminate all '36 matching items' or not?
cause I'm worried that it would corrupt or maybe disrupt my entire computer system
Is it safe and would cause no harm?
thanks...

I was burning at 2x speed..
I'm wondering if 8x speed would be more sensible?

Hey guys..ok
I went through the logs that I have and I realized that I have 2 different errors...
This is one of them:
I 09:23:34 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started!
I 09:23:34 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3)
I 09:23:34 Total Physical Memory: 981,480 KB - Available: 502,424 KB
W 09:23:34 Drive D:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size.
I 09:23:34 Initialising SPTI...
I 09:23:34 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
I 09:23:34 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD

Yea that too..thanks
and btw...
what is DMA ? heard about it somewhere and have no idea to it...

thanks loads

Thank you so much guys
As for the log I'll post up a couple as soon as I stock up on more blank DVD-R
I'm planning to get Verbatim as I heard that that was like one of the best media
Previously I used Sony DVD-R and recently I wasted like about 25 dvd's or maybe more(which pissed me off) ... as I keep getting an I/O error...
I'll post up a log for that too.. so whenever I burn ..its like I'm taking a risk...
so I wanna change that too..
I'll keep you guys updated..thanks so much

From what I have read so far...
I've noticed that people say to burn a DVD at a really fast speed, ex:16x would result in a blurry/bad playback
and that burning at 2x speed is much safer and the results are clearer in a way
Are both of these true?
And also considering that some people may burn a DVD in like a matter of 5 minutes...
And since my burning takes like about an hour to an hour and a half and that everytime when I try to burn a DVD with a speed greater than 2x I get a problem...
anyone have any solutions to this problem..
it would be appreciated thanks..

Oh ok, thanks
I'll post up a log of it if this error occurs again thanks

At first, ImgBurn works well for me..
but after a while
I keep getting this I/O Error
and ideas guys?
I/O Error

I'm wondering if its my media or my burner?
I use Sony DVD-R ...
I've successfully burned several with Sony DVD-R but now I get errors all the time
If its my media is it recommended to use Verbatim?
Please leave any advice to a successful burn
thanks
What are the recommended burning speed?

I have tried burning another DVD at a more sensible speed
which was 8x... however, I'm still using the same media DVD-R Sony 4.7gb and not Verbatim yet.. just to see what would be the outcome
and this was what I got:
