    Taiyo Yuden

Okay, So i've finally decided to cave and buy some taiyo yuden. I have found a great website with decent prices and they give the media id for all their discs. The only questions I have now is... does it matter if I get dvd+r or dvd-r? the -r are less expensive so i like that factor.
  3. i use DVD5-R for everything.... only use DVD9+R for backing up dual layer Games or full DVD movies.... dont ask me,,, ask Verbatim dude check the media code... it needs to be either Dye: MKM-001-00, Write Speed: 2.4x Dye: MKM-003-00, Write Speed: 8x http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010100071%2050001649%201087408098&name=DVD%2bR%20DL http://www.meritline.com/dvd-r-double-layer-media---c-7546.aspx?PriceOrder=12&mID=5&issy=1 http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=R&Category_Code=DPLUSDL http://www.supermediastore.com/verbatim-dvd-r-media-blank-dvd-media.html Okay... that helps. Still one question though.... about the + or - r. DVD5-r and dvd9+r .... what are the 5 and the 9 about. I burn full length movies from iso files mainly. which are better then?
  4. yes i know that. what about +r or - r. if verbatim are so good, why are they less expensive than the tdk ones i have? and how do i know that i'm getting the proper verbatim (ie. what country they are made in) and where does one find taiyo yuden in the usa?

  7. This is one of the drives (i have two)
  8. why has no one answered my post? Is it in the wrong place?
  9. Okay. I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, if not please let me know. Anyway... I'm looking for the best media for my drives. I currently use TDK dvd+r (disc id Ritek-F16-01) which i know, i know, isn't ideal. SOOOOO.... What is ideal? There seems to be good prices on Verbatim dvd+r (actaully less expensive than the TDK ones i bought) So that puzzles me a bit cuz my brain tells me more $$ = better quality. but perhaps i'm wrong. What's the difference between dvd+r and - r?? is there any preference? When i buy online, are there any ways to tell where the discs are made? From my reading it seems that certain countries make better disks, even of the same brand? From more reading, verbatim really does get good reviews, and you guys always mention them and Taiyo Yuden ( but i dont know where to find those). Can someone plese shed some light on this for me? Then hopefully i can stop buggin you guys with my problems (but you're the best at answering questions!) Thanks!
  10. oh, i did burn at 2.4x and it didnt skip. is this a sign that perhaps my drive is just getting over worked?
  11. then why is this problem coming now, not the months before when i was burning to the same media?
  12. i've converted avi files on this computer before with no problems much, the other one is new. does this just mean that my older one is "burnt out" .... no pun inteded. what about finding out if something is running in the background?
  13. okay... so i'm wondering if there might be something running in the background on my computer. I have two computers now that i burn on and when i take the same avi file to the second computer and convert it to an iso and burn it to a disk, it doesn't skip. same disks too. is there a way to find out what might be running that could mess up the disk?
  14. Okay.... the problem is back. But i can't figure out the reason why. Same media, burning at 6x, still skipping. If i burn the iso more than once, it doesn't skip in the same places. I just did one and it skipped just 3 minutes in, then the second burn it took over an hour before it skipped. Should i try burning at a faster speed? slower speed? I turn off everything on my computer while burning. internet, browsers, virus protection and such. Is there somethign perhaps running in the background that might be interfering wiht the burn?
  15. okay... i know where the mistake is then. Thanks so much!
  16. Hello... yet again. I have a movie that i'm trying to create an iso out of. i take the video_ts file in Build mode to do it, like i've done before, and now i get this: Unable to find any cells that could be used for the layer breaks! Now would be a good time to start crying, because technically, this is the end of the world. The layer break must be between sectors 269880 and 2086912. Sectore 269800 Falls within the VTS_01 (Title), which starts at sector 333. Relative to the start of the VTS_01 (title), the layer break must be between sectors 269547 and 2086579. it does go on... but i think you get the point. Is this for Dual layer? Which i'm not even sure what that is. I'm still burning to my TDK dvd+r single layer dvds. I've recently gotten a new computer and this is the first time it is creating an iso, so is there a setting i need to change?
  17. Yes i am aware that i can burn straight from the video_ts folder, but i keep the iso files for a long time so i find it easier to move single files around rather than whole folders. Just my preference... unless there's a disadvantage to an iso? I really appreciate your help. I'm going to burn some of my "problem dvds" with 6x and see if that solves the problem. i'll surely let you know if it doesn't
  18. Okay... just did a burn at 6x ... haven't played it yet in a dvd player to see if it skips though. but there is a little hiccup in the burn.... I 12:43:47 Operation Started! 19. These are the write speeds your burner supports with that media. Since 4x isn't resulting in a good burn, 6x and 8x are your next options. 2.4x isn't recommended because that media is rated 16x, and burning too slow in 16x media never gives good results. You could also try with Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blanks, and you could also join the dark side, I mean, try with DVD-R discs Okay... I'm trying faster speeds. Fingers crossed that will work because i just purchased a whack more of the tdk's thinking everything was fine.... For some reason i had it in my head that I had to use dvd+r... not sure where i got that from. So my drive can burn with dvd-r? what is the difference? which are really better?
  20. okay... I will try that. So faster burns are better?

  22. hello.... I've run into a recent problem with my burns. I've been doing exactly the same thing using exactly the same media burning some of the exact same files for over a year now. However, in the past few weeks i've run into the problem of having my dvd's skip. Not all, just some. I use TDK dvd+r, which yes i know isn't prime quality but for the last year they were perfectly fine. are there ones that are better than others? Is there a way to find out? could it be a problem with my drive or the iso files i'm creating? I don't verify my discs anymore because they often time won't .... posted a question about that a few months back but never really got my problem resolved so i just don't verify. is that a problem? I'm wondering if it is. I take the avi and convert it to iso using dvdflick. this is the only program i've ever used to convert, never had a problem. then the dvd burns with imgburn through dvdflick but i dont seem to have a log of it? so i can't post a log. sorry. i really hope someone here can help me.
  23. okay.... thanks for moving me. any advice for me though?
  24. Hello.... I'm in need of some advice here. Hopefully I can get a good answer to put my mind at rest. I'm purchasing a new pc and am wondering what I need to put in it. I have a tech spec, so can someone tell me if it is okay for my needs? I mainly use my pc for burning dvds and music. and downloading such media to burn. I don't do much else, maybe some photo edititng and such on photoshop. But really that's it. So, would this be okay: processor: intel core 2 duo e7600 with VT (3.06 GHz, 3M, 1066 MHz FSB) operating system: windows 7 memory: 2gb ddr3 non-ecc sdram, 1066 mhz (2 dimm) boot hard drive: 320 gb SATA 3.0 gb/s and 16 mb databurts cache I really hope someone can help. If i've posted this in the wrong forum, please move me to the appropriate place.
  25. I think i'm seriously going crazy.... I'm wondering if any of you brilliant people know ANYTHING about vista, because i think this might be where my problem is. Sorry for dumping my problems on you but i'm stuck, totally stuck. everything takes SO long to do in vista it seems. i click an app to open it, and it takes at least 30 seconds, if not longer, to open. Internet explorer takes ages to load once the screen is open. and often is going so slow it says "not responding". it will eventually respond once i wait a while. closing the screen takes a good 30 seconds as well. if i open "my computer" it will take a while before it shows any icons i know i should be patient, but this is rediculous. please tell me what to do.... this computer is going to end up on a time out in the corner soon.
